Historia
When Josh Underwood is thrown through a wormhole and lands on an unfamiliar world, he is immediately attacked by flesh-eating worms and snarling wolves. He has one huge advantage. A ring sits on his finger, but it's no ordinary ring. It's alien tech designed to improve its host’s strength, speed, agility, durability and combat instinct. Not all boons are infinitely wondrous. This tech has to understand what Josh needs for it to evolve, and time is of the essence.

Eh...
Revisado: 04-15-25
Started out interesting, then went to improbable soft core smut as a plot device instead of developing the world and story better.
I dont mind smex scenes, but they should be fluid, supportive and additive to the plot, not just crammed in for the sake of cramming it in.

Historia
When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Good story but...
Revisado: 08-20-24
The story is fun, and the Narrator is good, but the pre recorded bit EVERY time a class, or skill is mentioned, even when it's just characters talking, is very jarring and ruins the flow. Its like the Narrator has tourettes or something.
"Every one know I'm the **HERO**, but I have **ADMIN** powers." "I can use **TELEPORT**", etc
It gets old really fast when a skill or title is mentioned every sentence.

wanna slap a MC
Revisado: 01-20-24
I liked the concept of magical preserves, and it's fairly well written.
the Narrator is good. Took a bit to get used to. The cadence and tone kinda gives me; "Its children's story time in the library vibes".
It does, personally, make it hard for me to listen for long stretches though.
What is really driving me nuts though, is I am 3 books in and one of the MCs (Seth), absolutely refuses to learn anything and keeps doing the same dumb s*&t over and over. Doesn't matter who gets put at risk, How many people are hurt, including himself, what all consequences he causes, he just keeps making... the... same... bad... decisions. It's gotten very cringy.
Yeah, he's a kid, but at this point, it's super old, and I find myself hoping he gets written off.

Narrator is very robotic
Revisado: 04-12-23
The story is very jumpy, back and forth in timeliness, characters, etc. which probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the narrator.
The narrator, while very clear, consise, and well spoken, just drones on. There is no inflection, nothing emotes, and all the characters sound exactly the same.
It very hard to pay attention to what's going on, and I find myself constantly getting bored.
Sadly, I bought the 1rst 3 books of this series during Audibles most recent sale, and am stuck with them bc they are not eligible for refund.
Nearly finished with book 1, and only have the vaguest idea of what's going on.

Good listen
Revisado: 04-02-23
*Disclaimer: I recieved this book for free, but the review is honest.
To start, this is a sequel to Broken Bards which I wasn't aware of. That's said, it's still easy enough to follow without having the read the 1rst book.
The story is a great mix of genres including eldritch horrors, werewolves, Zombie esque heroines with powers with just the right dash of historical knowledge to set the scene of Napoleononic France.
It's a fairly quick moving story and I did find myself having to relisten to parts to figure out what happened as I mainly listen while working or elsewhere distracted.
the narrator does a great job with the telling. The voices do sometimes blend into each other a bit, but it isn't too noticeable
Over all, great well written book.

MEH
Revisado: 03-23-23
Needed a new book. 1 credit for 27hrs of fantasy, gave it a shot.
Books starts off reading like a YA furry Harem story. Wasn't to bad at first.
Pretty cliche standard stuff, weak nerdy Mc who goes from boom worm to apparently the most jacked person alive for no reason both physically and magically.
Then suddenly it becomes full on smut that sounds like someone with no experience, a thesaurus and and old playboy wrote it.
And making his first beastkin summon so child like was a little creepy. There's innocent, and then there's this.
Narrator was pretty good. Can't say much else.

Good story but...
Revisado: 07-13-22
Roughly the 1rst half hour of the book is the author using it a platform for thinly veiled whining about his political view points (aka liberals are ruining the military). It has absolutely no bearing on the actual story, which once he gets over his ranting, is actually a very interesting story.

Meh.
Revisado: 02-03-22
I tried to get into this. over halfway through the book, and there's just no connection to the MC. there's no story building, no depth.
street rat to most powerful wizard in world with no character development. no consequences for using godlike powers other than getting sleepy. Anytime Mc needs to learn anything, poof, he just conviently sucks the info out of someone, or a book.
only saving grace to this is the narrator.

Revisado: 01-18-22
RC Bray is an amazing author.
This was a great little short. The neg reviews complaining about the lack of action/story, don't get that that's not what this was about.
it's giving a back ground, and helping to humanize a primary character for the later series.

I tried...
Revisado: 05-12-21
I really tried, but had to stop halfway through.
it was in my recommended list and had good reviews, so I gave it a shot.
The MC is supposed to be this super renown assassin, but comes off as a jumpy rabbit with NO environmental awareness, and is always startled, or scared.by something.
The love triangle is forced, awkward, and makes no sense considering the involved characters roles. Oh, and like Oh Em Gee, Mc is like, soooo embarrased, so often.
The Narrator does a good job at giving characters different voices, but makes the MC sound like a little girl instead of this hardened super assassin shes supposed to be.
I just cant get into this, I kept hoping it would get better, but all the characters are written like freshmen teens in a 90s sitcom.
