He has an interesting personal history (family background and his ventures in Iran prior to imprisonment) in addition to the craziness of being held in a prison by a regime with false accusations. Surprised by the frenemy-like relationship between him and the prison staff. Also enjoyed him as a narrator.

Schedule as the foundation of goals

Took me many years to realize that time management was a weakness. I wish I had looked for this sooner. The book is only 2 hours long which is a good thing (can't imagine what more would have been added). Biggest takeaway for me was that a properly designed and followed schedule can provide a way to get more out of your time for whatever you want out of it.

War is hell

The book sheds light on war history that isn't as prominent as other events (world wars, etc.). Intense and gripping with a lot of action. If something could go wrong, it did go wrong.

Kinda long for the points made

The premise is that comedy has entered all sorts of places in our lives: news (e.g., The Daily Show), etc. However, the book is really long to make the point. I would listen sometimes and wonder why something is being discussed beyond simply being related to comedy. It wasn't bad enough to return but not good enough to recommend to someone else.

A gripping look at a very different kind of life

Tara's life has plenty of struggle: her weird upbringing, abuse, accidents, imposter syndrome, and parting from family. However, she repeatedly finds a way to keep going and make it to some prestigious places. Gripping story despite the downers. Also full of detail that makes it easy to imagine visually.

A voice of reason in polarized times

Non-partisan civil servant with integrity who served under administrations of both parties and dealt with big issues in his roles (terrorism, mafia, etc.). Also was great to have him narrate his story; he was surprisingly funny and raw (swearing) at times. His words about Trump were quite reasonable (not just another basher). A good story if you are interested not just in his latest stint but in general about the life of someone with a high-profile career.

Some food for thought not heard elsewhere

I liked the emphasis on the uncertainty of decision-making (bad outcomes from some good decisions) and the avoidance of resulting (judging decisions as good simply based on the outcome). Also was fun to hear about a poker player's perspective even though I don't play.

Holy cow

Lots of detail about the long con of Theranos and the whistleblowers who took them down. Was cool that the author became part of the story. Gripping.

Life through Spade's eyes

This book is basically Spade giving his take on various things all over his life. I haven't seen anything from Spade outside of the '90s (SNL and a HBO special) but enjoy his funny and snarky storytelling.

Awesome

The story is fantastic. Lots of winning, drugs, sex, and big personalities. Not a fan of the Cowboys but this book should be good for anyone who likes drama or football.

Similar to Pearlman's book on Favre but this one takes it up a notch.
