Historia
In Slouching Towards Gomorrah, one of our nation's most distinguished conservative scholars offers a prophetic view of a culture in decline, a nation in such serious moral trouble that its very foundation is crumbling. The root of our decline, Bork argues, is the rise of modern liberalism, which stresses the dual forces of radical egalitarianism and radical individualism.

Good but Dated
Revisado: 05-06-19
Very interesting information. The author went into more detail then I felt was required, my attention tended to wane before the next chapter. However, if I was writing a term paper on the history of liberalism at the turn of the century, this wordy tome would be very valuable.

Historia
America has become increasingly divided and polarized in recent years. With growing animosity toward law enforcement professionals, government corruption, disregard for the constitution, and racial tension thanks to the media and hate groups, there seems to be no easy answer in sight. But Sheriff David Clarke knows where we must begin. We must stop blaming others and take ownership of our families, communities, and country.

Historia
Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line.

I hope a sequal is written. This was a fun and enlightening read. The only disappointment is that it wasn't longer, I wanted to enjoy more of Ivan, Stella and their many friends.

Terrific Intro to Meditation
Revisado: 01-13-18
This audiobook went fast becsuse it kept me engaged in the topic. It gave concise, practical guidelines. Although I've meditated for 9 years and read approximately a dozen books, this tops them all. It gives enough information but not so much it turnes frustrating. The author struck a wonderful balance between why, how, when and benefits. There were short personsl stories to help explain and give a personal touch.
I learned some new things to try. I especially liked his way of explaining how meditation is useful for overcoming serious health concerns like cancer.
I highly recommmd this book.

I Better Understand Jesus from this book

I Better Understand Jesus from this book
Revisado: 11-24-17
Great audio-book. I especially liked how he went back to the Hebrew words to give deeper impact and understanding to the material he presented. I liked the use of New Testament scriptures and other world religion texts and thought. Since Jesus was Jewish, he probably learned these principles as a youth and practiced them as a man. It is also a good book to understand that mysticism isn't New Age but historically grounded in Jewish scripture, practicd and text. I'll be listening to this again.

Interesting but Belitteling
- De Debbie Kaba en 11-09-17
Interesting but Belitteling
Revisado: 11-09-17
It was interesting to listen to Ms. Brazile's history of the last few months of the election. I applaud her for making this behind-the-scenes information available to the public. It is very educational and interesting. I'd love to be a student in her class in Georgetown as she's an excellent speaker. I was amazed at the stress the behind-the-scenes staff goes through to put on over a year of political extravanga prior to elections. Followed by my thought of, "Why do all that?"
In one of the last chapters, she mentions her hope is the US can move on and regain unity. That is also my hope.
I felt some of the presentation was hate-filled toward President Trump. I can understand disappointment her candidate/party didn't win, but the cruelty of her words was surprising and reduced the potential scholarly nature of the book. Hate does nothing to nurture understanding of unity. To heal a rift, it seems to be able to even find one good thing about somebody we detest or disagree with can become the conduit where factions can begin to hear the other and open dialogue and hopefully build understanding. This was glaringly absent. If leadership can't find one potential area to reconnect the nation, then it encourages me to fight to vote out all current leaders and their handlers and find a better way to become a united country.
The other negative to me was I felt like the author and possibly the DNC saw the individual voter as a sheep to be hearded into the "right" pasture--voting for their candidate. Statements such as, if we (DNC) would have done this, the voters would have done that. At the end she did mention identity politics may have hurt the campaign. Bingo. Identity politics hurt the book's credibility.
I found the repetition of the DNC was hacked and Russia was behind it and Trump's obviously involved boring. Once would have been okay, expected and acceptable. But the repetition not so much. Until it's factual and not just fiction, it reduced the believibility of the whole book.
I'm glad I listened to the audio book. It was interesting, Ms. Brazil's is an excellent author and reader that made the book an enjoyable and entertaining read. It's worth purchasing no matter which political party you support.

Revisado: 09-26-17
I loved this book. It gave me words to better understand my spiritual history, but encouraged me with glimpses of metaphysical joys ahead.
The audiobook was well written and well performed. Had I purchased the paperback, it would have underlines of special nuggets I discovered of wisdom on every page.
It's a must read for those who want a deeper spiritual walk.

Good Information, Difficult Narration
Revisado: 09-13-17
i found the lack of pauses, especially on long lists, difficult to understand. the reader's voice had excellent diction, but the lack of emotions had the educational aspect of the information feel dry and boring. if you ignore the performance, the information was excellent for beginners.

Historia
God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each. Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers.
