Historia
The rise to global predominance of Western civilization is the single most important historical phenomenon of the past five hundred years. All over the world, an astonishing proportion of people now work for Western-style companies, study at Western-style universities, vote for Western-style governments, take Western medicines, wear Western clothes, and even work Western hours. Yet six hundred years ago the petty kingdoms of Western Europe seemed unlikely to achieve much more than perpetual internecine warfare. It was Ming China or Ottoman Turkey that had the look of world civilizations.

Compelling - with obvious Bias
Revisado: 08-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Good Material ... but don't take it too seriously. Ferguson ignores Indian civilization altogether and thus makes some obvious mistakes (e.g. Atheism is a western construct). There's also a bias here towards Christianity and the repreated "The West and the Rest" tagline can be offensive. And he really didn't need to try to appear 'tech-savvy' with terms like Killer Apps. That said, its a good book and I'd recommend it to all with the caveat that it shouldn't be taken as gospel.
Would you be willing to try another book from Niall Ferguson? Why or why not?
I already have! He is a good writer - some biases not withstanding.
Which character – as performed by Niall Ferguson – was your favorite?

The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization.

Excellent!
Revisado: 11-08-10
This audiobook is well worth a credit! Both the narrative and narration very well done and the book is full of very interesting details of history.
My only criticism would be that this book talks about Genghis Khan as well as his sucessors. THe title led me to believe that this would be a book about him entirely. Also, there is little mention on the impact that he had on the Modern world, also as the title suggests. That said, I have been left with a more complete picture of the Khan Dynasty because the author wrote the book this way. These two things aside I still enjoyed the book and recommend it to all.

A must read for EVERYBODY
Revisado: 06-04-10
This is an essential book for everyone looking for direction or looking to direct others in life and work. The author presents a very simple message - to follow your passion - but does so in a unique way mixing the stories of various figures, from different fields and backgrounds with humour and common sense. The narration is also surprisingly well done.

VERY difficult to listen to, little new material
Revisado: 05-01-10
This book is a complete waste of time and money. Not only is it not suited to audio format, but the authors style is dull, boring and repeditive. Many times he will make a pedantic point and then spend the next few minutes giving examples of it. E.g. There are many reasons a prospect will not call you back. He might be busy, have forgotten etc etc etc. This book could be half of its legnth and time if he didn't waste time going over trivial details.
In short this book does not give much new information and is VERY difficult to sit through.

Historia
Traditionally, Robert F. Kennedy has been viewed as either the "Good Bobby", who saw wrong and tried to right it, or the "Bad Bobby" of countless conspiracy theories. Evan Thomas' achievement is to realize RFK as a human being, to bring to life an extraordinarily complex man who was at once kind and cruel, devious and honest, fearful and brave. The portrait that emerges is unvarnished but sympathetic, packed with new details about Kennedy's early life and his behind-the-scenes machinations.

Excellent Book, Excellent Narration
Revisado: 04-13-10
Before buying this book I read the reviews and noticed two things in common. Everybody loved the content, and everybody disliked the narrator. Having now listened to the whole book, I agree that the content is brilliant. But I also find that the narration is very well done also. Some of the voices can be somewhat distracting, especially the female ones, but the narrator doesn't miss a beat between switching voices and overall does a very good job.
In short, content and narration are definately 5 star, and I highly recommend this book to all.

Masterful storytelling from a feminine perspective
Revisado: 10-27-09
This wonderful book tells the story of the Mahabarata from the point of view of a woman within the story. It is vastly different to the origional which has a masculine tone. But it contains all the elements of a timeless tale with great spiritual insight. This is complemented by an excellent narrator. Highly recommended to all.
