Fascinating! Well written.
Revisado: 04-25-25
Very well written and narrated book. It was pleasant to listen to, had a good progression and captivating stories. I am fascinated with NDEs and already had decent base knowledge of them, was interested in listening to a doctor's perspective, especially one who has not experienced NDE but was open minded enough to explore them. This is exactly it. At times the book did feel a touch dry, it seems that even after so many accounts of spiritual awakening after NDE of his patients Dr. Grayson is still guarding himself from experiencing a full spiritual awakening himself (it's evident from his attitude), however that doesn't diminish from the incredible work he has done to help build a safe space in this world to those who have experienced NDEs and bring a better understanding of their experience to the rest of the world.
Highly recommend this book to enthusiasts and skeptics alike. Everyone will come away with something valuable from this book.

Enlightening information!
Revisado: 02-22-25
I stumbled on Jeff Cleckley's story on accident, and was compelled to listen to the whole story even though I typically skip these types of things. His story resonated with me for some reason even though I have never experienced NDE myself. And yet, here I am, I listened to the whole book and will listen to it again. It was very enlightening! I do have many questions still but the book was very well written, Jeff did a great job narrating it and most importantly the content is very interesting and transformational. It will take me some time to digest this so I will listen to it more soon.
If you are seeking answers and feel lost in this world, this is definitely a good book to help find yourself and your path.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

This should be called "Organized Chaos"
Revisado: 12-06-24
Chaos by Tom O'Neill was recommended by a handful of people, so I decided to listen to it.
It stays true to its name, it feels like utter chaos listening to endless names and "she said, he said" back and forths. To keep some sort of semblance of understanding you'd need to create a board with names, pins and lines leading to each other and build it up as you read/hear new information. I had to search online for many of the names mentioned to have a better understanding of what was going on. This book would probably be a great read for a lawyer. I know for a fact I would never be able to have any of my friends or family sit through it as they simply don't care enough to put in this much effort (which is sad, that most adults nowadays prefer books that require the least strain of the mind).
With all that said, it was an eye opening book. You think you know the extent of federal and state government disregard for citizen lives and rights as well as the lies and coverup that follows, and then you read this book and it's even worse. After news like this it feels silly to hear the criticism of corruption abroad. The amount of disgusting murder, torture, r*pe, kidnapping, coersion, drugging, blackmail and other horrible crimes that has gone completely unpunished listed in this reporting should be source of great international shame of the US government and judicial system. I am disgusted and disturbed knowing justice for those victims has not seen the light of day.
The only thing I am grateful for in this instance is Tom O'Neill's relentless effort to report and expose all this and the fact that this book did get published and became easily available and accessible in America.

Emotionally Thrilling Read!
Revisado: 08-06-24
I'm honestly shocked at how much I LOVED listening to "Thirst"! I have so many audio books, some 200 probably, and I have listened to most of them, and believe me when I tell you, this is one of the very best in terms of story and narration! From beginning to end, Scott does such an amazing job narrating this book. His emotions clearly show throughout the telling of this book. It's quite the rollercoaster ride and Scott didn't miss a peak or a drop and the entire time I was fully invested in the story. You can tell Scott is an outstanding story teller. I won't bore you with a summary of the story, you can find that in the description or elsewhere online, but I will say that this book did more for me than dozens of self-help books I read in the past few years.
If you are down in the dumps, read this book.
If you need inspiration, read this book.
If you are lost and need direction, read this book.
If you are happy-go-lucky, read this book.
I will have both of my daughters read this book when they are old enough to grasp the more mature concepts included in here. It gives a great perspective on our lives we so rarely allow ourselves.
Thank you Scott for this treasure and for the amazing work you and your team continue to do for this world, I am going to listen to this book again and again, because it brings a light into my mind that I need.

Good message, peculiar delivery and story.
Revisado: 04-08-24
In short: This is a journalist that in painfully meticulous detail describes his reasons for his descent into hunting while weaving into the story his journalistic experience and research on all things "comfort/discomfort".
Interesting reiteration of a compelling message that has been ringing through the internet for a couple of decades already - we are too comfortable and it makes us sick, ignorant and inept. The author cites a lot of research behind every line of thought he presents. The plot/story is interesting, but perhaps due to the narration - anticlimactic, the entire thing feels like a lot of buildup and no twist, you seem to often forget you are listening to non-fiction and expect something drastic to happen - but nothing does. It's just a very monotonous progression. I wish he changed his voice a bit more for the other people in the story to add contrast. I also wish the story had about 50% less of his hunting story. Way too much unnecessary detail that don't add anything of merit to the story, like describing every single movement of the body, every single scratch, itch, sigh, word that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the story line, draws out the book and dilutes the story line.
Overall a good read. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in hunting, but will save those who just care about the message with a quick synopsis.
You can get "uncomfortable" the old fashioned way doing so many more things than just hunting, even doing laundry "back in the day" used to be a dangerous, gruelling mission of hiking to the stream or river, with wild animals at your heels, straneous activity, heavy loads carried, ice-cold water etc. Some places still have children and women who walk many miles daily for drinking water, just to survive. I wish he'd branch out a bit in the "discomfort" department and bring more color to the book with more vivid examples of comforts we take for granted nowadays, because right now, this is heavily a "death and hunting book".

Revisado: 01-12-24
There's many things I do for this or that reason, but in desperate times, I always come back to Thay's teachings. These teachings are the most practical guide to stay sane in this often wild world. They ground you and give you peace and clarity. This is the best medication for ADHD and a myriad of mental issues that plague our world today. I'm grateful that I have it at my fingertips via audio on Audible. I listen and re-listen at work, in my car while I'm driving, and it always calms my mind and my soul. I won't repeat the actual contents here, you'll just have to listen to the book for yourself and feel the results.
One thing I will say, if you enjoy philosophy, this is quite a treat!
Also, the narration was splendid as always.
Thank you to all involved in its production.

Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the most zen humans in history, in my personal opinion. If you need more peace in your life, I highly recommend this or any of his other books. Narration was lovely and clear. This is an easy listen and yet the more times you listen to it the more you hear things you missed the first time. Wonderful book!

Another Gem from Russell Brand!
Revisado: 10-21-22
If you've been following Russell's work, this is another link in the chain of his books that brings together the messages of seeking meaning he shares with the world. If you are unfamiliar with Russell's work, this is certainly a way to introduce yourself into it. It has a similar point as the other books - a search for deeper meaning and truth of the world and how to. This makes me want to get a good mentor to help guide me. Russell's able to highlight practical solutions to our spiritual cravings and struggles of life. While he doesn't walk you through meticulous directions with addresses where to find your answers, he does a stellar job guiding you in practical ways to improve your life and deepen your connections. He's a great story teller and a very eloquent speaker, giving him plenty of charisma to keep you engaged. Bravo!
I cannot imagine Russell's books read by anyone but him. The author does a stellar job of annunciating the points he tries to make in the books. It is pleasant to listen to him narrate the book. Though he often speaks fast naturally in other places making it difficult to understand him, here in this book he has a slower pace, and about midway through the book I found myself even speeding up the sound once I was comfortable with the flow.
