Historia
Admittedly, there's a touch of black humor in the case. Rich, old practical joker Andrew Trent summons his kin to the remote Arrat House in the dead of winter for a deathbed farewell. They arrive to find him in perfect health and eager to torment them with a new bag of unfunny jokes.

Historia
About the best that can be said of wealthy Maggie Baird is that inside her middle-aged body, there still beats the heart of a beautiful tart. So when her car catches fire with Maggie in it, there are five likely suspects right on the premises of her luxurious Highlands cottage. Lochdubh police constable Hamish Macbeth has to question Maggie's timid niece and four former lovers, one of whom Maggie had intended to pick for her husband. All five are equally poor - with ample motive and opportunity to monkey with Maggie's car.

I enjoy the Hamish Macbeth series, overall. This falls a little short in the mystery department and all the characters are horrid.

Historia
Believing that someone is trying to murder her, gorgeous Jane Wetherby asks Hamish Macbeth to spend Christmas with her and an exclusive group of friends at her Scottish island health farm. With a cold in his head and no place to go for the holidays, Hamish accepts her invitation. He thinks the lady is a bit daft, but, arriving on the lonely isle of Eileencraig, he feels a prickle of foreboding. The locals are openly threatening; the other guests, especially a terrible snob named Heather Todd, are barely civil.

Historia
Though Frederica chafed at the restricted life she lived as the adopted daughter of an infamous bluestocking, she did agree with the philosophy. Until men learned to appreciate intellectual equals, Frederica was better off without them. But her sister’s elopement has sparked fires of romance in Frederica’s well-educated head, making her ripe for the considerable charms of Lord Harry Danger, who has saved her from a pack of drunken thugs. Now if he would only treat her as an equal and stop the silly flirting.

Not interested in the heroine at all
Revisado: 04-05-20
Frederica was very dry and stiff character. It is absolutely amazing that Lord Harry Danger even looked at her twice let alone fell in love with her and had to make her his wife. This is not one of Chesney's best. The plot has unbelievable twists and turns. How many times can one young lady by attacked by mysterious villains in one book? I liked Harry Danger but really he was the only one.

Historia
The Earl of Tredair has had his fill of balls, routs, and silly misses, and he despairs of finding someone extraordinary - that is, until he meets Miss Fanny Waverley. Most unique and intriguing, Fanny and her two sisters are the adopted daughters of the reclusive bluestocking Madame Waverley. They have been raised as her disciples to spread the word of women's rights and to encourage poor oppressed females to stand up against the iniquities of the male sex. The beautiful and farouche Miss Fanny, however, finds it quite difficult to think of all men as cruel and lustful beasts....

Historia
Matilda Westcott has spent her life tending to the needs of her mother, the Dowager Countess of Riverdale, never questioning the life of solitude she has spun for herself. To Matilda, who considers herself the aging spinster daughter, marriage is laughable - love is a game for the young, after all. But her modest, quiet life of order unravels when a dashing gentleman from her past reappears, threatening to charm his way into her heart yet again.

Just an ok listen
Revisado: 03-19-20
I really liked the idea of a man and woman meeting 30 years after their broken courtship. The story was kind of hard to believe with the man being a total rake for the majority of his life but "loving" only her. If he truly loved her, he would have changed his evil ways when he was younger and waited a year to come back and court her so that her parents would approve of the match.

Historia
In the dark, wintry highlands of Lochdubh, Scotland, where the local Calvinist element resists the secular trimmings of Christmas, the spirit of old Saint Nick is about as welcome as a flat tire on a deserted road. Nor is crime taking a holiday, as Constable Hamish Macbeth soon finds himself protecting an unhappy girl, unlocking the secrets of a frightened old woman, and retrieving some stolen holiday goods. Now the lanky lawman must use all his Highland charm and detective skills to make things right.

This set includes the first two books in the Hamish Macbeth cozy mystery series set in the Scottish Highlands. Death of a Gossip: When society widow and gossip columnist Lady Jane Winters joined the fishing class, she wasted no time in ruffling the feathers—or was it the fins?—of those around her. Death of a Cad: When Priscilla Halburton-Smythe brings her London playwright fiancé home to Lochdubh, everybody in town is delighted…except for love-smitten Constable Hamish Macbeth. Yet his affairs of the heart will have to wait.

Great Mysteries and great narration
Revisado: 02-25-20
Antony Ferguson narrates these stories very well. I watched the Hamish TV series first and then discovered the audio books. The TV series is nothing like the books. I really enjoyed these two mysteries written by MC Beaton. The characters were likable, and the murder mystery itself was set up in a believable manner.

This is a light listen. I really liked the main characters and the love story was sweet. As always Chesney throws in an evil villain or two to move the plot along. I liked Lucy Raynor's narration.
