Historia
In ancient Rome, the number of slaves was far greater than that of free citizens. As a result, often the people Romans feared most were the "enemies at home," the slaves under their own roofs. Because of this, Roman law decreed that if the head of a household was murdered at home, and the culprit wasn't quickly discovered, his slaves - all of them, guilty or not - were presumed responsible and were put to death...without exception.

I really tried to like this
Revisado: 03-23-22
Enemies at Home was a big disappointment to me. I would put it in the genre of boring faux historical fiction. It quickly became the book that plays when I want to fall asleep.

Historia
Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York.

Revisado: 01-01-22
Such passion for food! I can almost taste each morsel of food Mr. Tucci recounts in this wonderful memoir. His thoughts on pairing pastas and sauces should be observed by all. I should have known my ex was a loser when he insisted on having Bolognese sauce over angel hair pasta. As other reviewers have stated, Taste prompts me to fall in love with cooking real Italian food again. Thank you Stanley Tucci.

The Debbie Downer of Food Writing
Revisado: 12-30-20
Narrator seems to know it all and find fault with it all. Is snipey a word? It should be as that is how he sounds. Like a sniper picking off historical and contemporary figures, fashions, and foods. I’ve read that he is knowledgeable and a popular writer but I found his writing and narration like an arrogant, flatulent old man; farting on and on and on...

This is a combination of fingernails on a chalk board and having a bad case of the flu. Not for me. I tried, and tried, and tried again, but it is beyond pretentious, and moves so slow that I have fallen asleep at least 30 times in the first 3rd of the book.

Historia
The year is 1975 and Reno - so-called because of the place of her birth - has come to New York intent on turning her fascination with motorcycles and speed into art. Her arrival coincides with an explosion of activity in the art world - artists have colonized a deserted and industrial SoHo, are staging actions in the East Village, and are blurring the line between life and art. Reno meets a group of dreamers and raconteurs who submit her to a sentimental education of sorts.

Unbelieveable - literally.
Revisado: 01-06-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
At first I was very excited about this book. There were elements that I could relate to from my own past (living and working in Soho in the 70's, being part of the art scene, riding motorcycles). But there was just too much inconsistency in the detail for me to think it was well written. I like to create a visual image as I'm reading (or listening). Many of the landmarks, people and streets I'm very familiar with, but the way they were strung together illustrated the imagination of a fiction writer. Entertaining? Yes. Would I recommend it? Probably not.
What about Christina Traister’s performance did you like?
She was able to project personalities through the voices of the multiple narrators in this book.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
