Enlightening, even for Spain experts.
Revisado: 03-04-20
I thought I knew Spain, and she did confirm a lot of what I had learned previously. But she also shines a light on matters often overlooked even if uncomfortable.
A small correction, El Salvador fought a war against Honduras. Not against Guatemala.
The cities of Santiago and Matamoros all over the Spanish world have a whole new meaning now.

I was entertained and learned a lot
Revisado: 02-25-20
He is not just reading from a dictionary He tells you each word has a history, and some hilarious anecdote about the word’s origin or how it became popular.
He also groups certain words into certain categories and shows you how each word has its own level of impact.
I loved learning all this as I was stuck in traffic. Very soothing.

A Hard Review to Write

Delivers what it promises
Revisado: 10-02-19
The first minute in the book says clearly “university level” lectures.
They really talk philosophy here.
No Dalai Lama or Tony Robbins or eastern mysticism here.
They talk Descartes, Hume, Kant, Aquinas, etc. All the usual suspects.
This is not an intro level course. At the same time it is not an intermediate level or nowhere near an advanced level course. It’s more of a summary of the ideas of each epoch, each thinker, each movement or “ism” and some critiques.
Highly enjoyable if you’re into this sort of thing.
I’m no sure when this was recorded or if the instructor used PowerPoint or if he really does have such an amazing command of his memory and of the English language. He is truly impressive.
Very much worth it.

This book is part two of a Trilogy, I wish I had read it years ago, being a big fan of Fantasy. I appreciate the great writing and the lessened focus on sex scenes that you see in other Fantasy series.

Historia
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

Wonderful narration of a timeless classic. First read it as a child before I'd ever fished or knew a thing about Hemingway. Was very special then, more special now.

Historia
First published in 1970, nine years after Hemingway's death, this is the story of an artist and adventurer, a man much like Hemingway himself. Beginning in the 1930s, Islands in the Stream follows the fortunes of Thomas Hudson, from his experiences as a painter on the Gulf Stream island of Bimini through his antisubmarine activities off the coast of Cuba during World War II. Hemingway is at his mature best in this beguiling tale.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

When Ernest Hemingway died in 1961 he had nearly completed A Moveable Feast, which eventually was published posthumously in 1964 and edited by his widow Mary Hemingway. Revisado: 02-15-18
This is the "restored" version, not that much different than the other edition. Things get really political comparing the two, but only for purists. This edition has a lot of stuff left out of the other edition, with original text restored. Just pick one already. You won't regret either one.

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.
