In the style of Grace Livingston Hill, but none of the magic

I did not enjoy the narration. The story is cute, but seems formulaic and has little attraction.

One of the Worst of This Author’s Books
Revisado: 07-13-23
Throughout this performance I found myself thinking “I really dislike this book,” and “this narrator sounds silly.” Robyn McKinley writes young women well, but this book just sounded like a caricature of a teenage boy.

Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Slightly Ridiculous
Revisado: 09-22-22
Perfect performance by the narrator.
Storyline is interesting, yet kind of unbelievable. The feminist feelings of all the female characters is predominant over any other value or moral. The brand of librarian friends somehow single handedly save a neighborhood from a flood, are a mature midwives and detectives, and magically sing a mob into submission.

Historia
When Twenty Years After opens it is 1648: the Red Sphinx, Cardinal Richelieu, is dead, France is ruled by a regency in the grip of civil war, and across the English Channel the monarchy of King Charles I hangs by a thread. As d’Artagnan will find, these are problems that can’t be solved with a sword thrust. In Twenty Years After, the musketeers confront maturity and face its greatest challenge: sometimes, you fail. It’s in how the four comrades respond to failure, and rise above it, that we begin to see the true characters of Dumas’s great heroes.

Not the Complete Book!!!

I love this book and tell it abruptly ended 2/3 of the way through the story. According to other sources this book should includes two more acts.

Historia
Edith Wharton stands among the finest writers of early 20th-century America. In The Custom of the Country, Wharton’s scathing social commentary is on full display through the beautiful and manipulative Undine Spragg. When Undine convinces her nouveau riche parents to move to New York, she quickly injects herself into high society. But even a well-to-do husband isn’t enough for Undine, whose overwhelming lust for wealth proves to be her undoing.

Hate This Book; Love The Narration
Revisado: 05-13-20
I loved Barbara Caruso’s version of the Anne of Green Gables series, and decided to try some more of her work.
Unfortunately I couldn’t listen to more than three hours of this book. The main character is such a naïve, vain, and silly character. I could not stand her.
