The narration had a lot of Dead space between words that sounded somewhat robotic. Good content though.

Ironically, the book came across as a somewhat shallow review of the concept it lays out.

The core concept that focused attention produces more valuable work and a greater sense of meaning is one I emphatically agree with. However, the authors view on how to achieve this is somewhat narrow and overly systematic.

The foundations of many of his arguments are based on disproved findings on willpower fatigue. He also regularly creates straw man arguments to refute his approach and attacks them rather than consider different approaches. This tactic detracts from the books valid core message, and wastes time that could have been spent strengthening the message.

However, the book does have some valid insights that make it worth the read.

Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance is exceptional, and brings Tolstoy's genius to life. She portrays the emotional presence of each character with precision and clarity.

More for parents of borderline children

Most of the examples assume a semi-patronizing tone that might be applicable to parents with borderline children, but offered little advice to people in other family relationships where the same tone/stance would be more patronizing.

Also, too full of anecdotes and mnemonics for my taste. In my opinion it would have been better to use that time to dive deeper into DBT.
