Historia
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Needs to be tagged religious fiction
Revisado: 02-21-23
I wish books like these were tagged as religious fiction. Not what I was looking for. Summary doesn't mention it at all. Couldn't make it to the end.

Confusing/trying too hard
Revisado: 03-13-21
This book was a bit all over the place. Time travel, ghost story, murder mystery, erotic romance....some parts kept my interest while others were less entertaining. The narrator did a nice job. Overall, this book was like buying the off brand version of Outlander.

Historia
During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

I'm on chapter 29, should I keep listening?
Revisado: 10-22-20
The narration and POV shifts keep me engaged, but the dark and macabre nature of the characters make none of them likeable. Not a fan of the detailed blood/death scenes...supposed I was looking for more of a mystery/thriller and less of a horror/depressing story.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Wow!
Revisado: 09-08-20
So unexpected! I came across this book in my free Audible picks and I'm so glad that I chose it. It's not the typical genre I go for and I listened to the first chapter while doing the dishes or laundry - not paying much attention and just letting it play in the background. By chapter 2, I was hooked and stayed up into the night listening. The author created a strong and likable main character with supporting characters who fit into her story like pieces of a puzzle. The author's word choices and descriptive narration made this story fly off the pages and play like a movie as I listened. I highly recommend!!!

Historia
Some people are meant to travel the globe, to unwrap its secrets, and share them with the world. And some people have no sense of direction, are terrified of pigeons, and get motion sickness from tying their shoes. These people are meant to stay home and eat nachos. Geraldine DeRuiter is the latter. But she won't let that stop her. Hilarious, irreverent, and heartfelt, All over the Place chronicles the years Geraldine spent traveling the world after getting laid off from a job she loved.

Couldn't finish - story of a dependant/whiny woman
Revisado: 05-25-20
I stopped actively listening around chapter 5 and struggled on, determined to finish. I admitted defeat by chapter 9 after letting the audio play while I washed dishes and scrolled Facebook as those tasks provided more entertainment than this book. If you are looking for a memior or a 'life lessons' essay instead of a book about travel, then this might be for you. If, like me, you are seeking an account of travel stories/descriptions of places, then this is NOT it. It reads more like a compilation of this woman's worst qualities/life experiences as she puts herself down and glorifies her husband through a whiny and trying-too-hard-to-be-witty narration. I kept telling myself to just get through it, that I might take something valuable away from this book by the end even though it wasn't what I was looking for....but I couldn't. Instaed, I just felt annoyed. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I was hoping for the story of a strong female on an independent journey through travel/life, but ended up with a rambling account of this woman's family and their mishaps penned by a seemingly highly-strung, dependant wife who overuses the word "inexplicably." Maybe it's exactly what you're looking for, but for me it was NOT.

Xanthe has always had an affinity with some of the antiques she finds. When she touches them, she can sense something of the past they come from and the stories they hold. When she has an intense connection to a beautiful silver chatelaine, she has to know more. It is while she’s examining the chatelaine that she’s transported back to the 17th century, where it has its origins. She discovers there is an injustice in its history. The spirit that inhabits her new home confronts her and charges her with saving her daughter’s life, threatening to take Flora’s if she fails.

Enjoyable escape
Revisado: 02-05-20
I enjoyed nearly every aspect. Well written with the effect of creating a 'little movie' in my head as I listened. The narrator's accents for each character created added to the vividness without being forced or over the top. I saw each character as I listened. The story is somewhat reminiscent of Outlander, but held it's own in the way of originality. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story full of history and time travel!
