More than a book
Revisado: 11-14-24
It is a poem told in different languages! A book that made me cry from time to time so amazed by the beauty of the words chosen to describe love and hate, sadness and happiness, sorrow and joyce! Thank you, Yaa!

Historia
Nora Harmon has a lot to be thankful for: two great kids, a stable marriage, and now, a dream career. Software consultant Jane Bell wants Nora on her team. She’s offering a fantastic salary, flexible hours, and a chance to travel the world. It sounds too good to be true, but Jane won’t take no for an answer. Jane acts more like a friend than a boss, and Nora’s personal and professional boundaries begin to blur. Jane is smitten with Nora’s perfect family—particularly her daughter—and far too attentive to Nora’s husband. Nora can’t help but feel insecure and unsettled.

I can’t believe this book has been written by TRR. So frustrating! And the reader didn’t add anything to it if making this book even more awful!

Historia
My name is Savannah Miller. My father is the mayor of New York. One day, after my 27th birthday, I was grabbed from behind. A cloth sack was quickly pulled over my head, and I was taken from everything I'd ever known. I was beaten, starved, treated like an animal, and forced to live in a room with no windows. With no sense of time and no dignity left, I finally gave up hope and made a promise to myself to end it all. Unfortunately, it was going to be a slow process.

The worst book I have ever bought on Audible
Revisado: 10-20-21
Not only the story is not interesting and does not reflect what I expected when I read the short snapshot, but the reader’s voice is really boring. It a really cheesy book and not only that but you get to the end to learn that you have to buy book 2 to know what happens next. I have never had such a bad experience listening to a book. So sad!!!

Another disappointed fan
Revisado: 09-03-18
Yes, I am/was (?) a fan of Karin Slaughter but her last book has really shaken this status.
This book is booooring! I have two more hours to go and I can't wait to finish it. I was really hoping that at some point the girl(s) will stop whining, but no... If you count the number of interjections, hesitations to speak, repetitions to encourage them to do it....that makes up for the number of listening hours of this book.
May be Karin made a mistake when she gave us the main character's age. May be it was supposed to be 16 instead of 32. I don't know.
The performance by Kathleen Early was beautifully done though, but it is not enough to save the book.

Pushing myself to finish it
Revisado: 02-19-18
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I don't know. This story is about an egocentric, very self-centered woman who only think about her and complain about everything in her life.
What character would you cut from As Good as True?
Anna, but if I cut her, there is nothing since it's all about her.

It could have taken half of the time and the pages
Revisado: 12-15-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A shorter story with the same plot. It was really long and sometimes boring
What could Harlan Coben have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I usually like Harlan Coben's books but this one was not interesting.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
I can say yes and I am sad for the narrator. He certainly found the time very long.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment.
Any additional comments?
Mr. Coben said at the beginning of the book that it was one of his first realizations...he could rewrite it with half pages less.

This powerful and breathtaking novel is the story of four cadets who have become bloodbrothers. Together they will encounter the hell of hazing and the rabid, raunchy and dangerously secretive atmosphere of an arrogant and proud military institute. They will experience the violence. The passion. The rage. The friendship. The loyalty. The betrayal. Together, they will brace themselves for the brutal transition to manhood... and one will not survive.

A Pleasure to the ears
Revisado: 09-29-13
What did you love best about The Lords of Discipline?
The story as well as the narrator; wonderful story that the narrator put to life.
What did you like best about this story?
The description of Charleston. I went to visit Charleston a month ago just because of the book. On my way there, I made my husband listen to the book too. He enjoyed it.
What about Dan John Miller’s performance did you like?
He was able to bring the different characters to life: I was suffering with them and laughing with them and crying with them too. What a great narrator!
If you could rename The Lords of Discipline, what would you call it?
Why do you want to change perfection?
Any additional comments?
Record Conroy's Beach Music read by the same narrator.

Made me lose weight!
Revisado: 09-29-13
Would you listen to The Pillars of the Earth again? Why?
I listen to my audiobooks while walking. I was so excited to hear the next pages of Follett's book that I went walking more than ever.
I don't listen to books again if I know what is going to happen. A big part of my interest for the book was the suspense in each page.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Pillars of the Earth?
All the combat scenes: very well described.
