Historia
Meet Erin Locke, snark-filled resident of Northwest England and general ignorer of social norms. All's going well enough for her on June 23, but then some people died, and then more people died, and then those people stopped being dead, and then the biting kicked in, and before you know it she's fighting zombies, leaping over walls and climbing to rooftops to stay alive.

Zombie story with a heart?
Revisado: 01-12-24
I stumbled on this after discovering and finishing the initial 8 “Adrian’s Undead Diary” books. I generally avoid fan fiction as I usually find it pretty cringe. This series completely changed my mind.
Carl Meadows has written a solid story and brought to life characters that can completely stand alone in Adrian’s world. You don’t have to have read the original series (but you’d be missing out if you didn’t) for this one to make sense.
Also it’s an omnibus! You’d have to be a complete bellend to pass up on a 3 for 1!
Get in there and meet Lockey and Nate, fall in love with Freya and Particles, and laugh your way through the Zombie Apocalypse.

I really wanted to like this...
Revisado: 07-04-15
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I really really wanted to like this book. It was chock full off some of my favorite genres. I just couldn't make myself press play one more time. It trudged along bouncing between witches, magic, religion, science (???) and a cat. I got a third of the way through and could go no further.
Maria Marquis gave a lovely performance. I just wish she'd had better material.

"After" has a companion series??
Revisado: 07-04-15
I received a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review. Although I'm fairly new to the world of "After", I was stoked to find out that there is a companion series. I'd also like to note that you don't have to read all the "After" books before this one as it serves as a stand alone book as well.
Mackey has issues. He's done some bad stuff, has some bad habits, and that makes him a bad guy, right? Underneath all that baggage is still a good heart. He does what most of us would do in the wake of an apocalypse, and that's set out to find the person or people who mean the most. Things go right...stuff goes wrong...all in all it makes up for a good side story.
As with "After: The Shock", "Bone and Cinder: Zapheads book 1" is narrated by Kevin Clay who gives another great performance.

It's elementary, dear druids...
Revisado: 06-19-15
These are fun shorts originally posted on Kevin Hearne's website. "Kaibab Unbound" is probably my favorite. As Oberon would probably tell you, squirrels are usually shady and up to no good. As Atticus would tell you, witches are guaranteed trouble. In the end, Druids rule, witches drool.
"A Test of Mettle" takes place while Atticus is off on a "guys weekend" in Asgard (those who have read the series know what I'm talking about) and Granuaile is performing tedious tasks as part of her druid apprenticeship. Sonora lends a hand until pesky goddesses show up.
Short fun gap fillers in the Iron Druid Chronicles.
....and as always, Luke Daniels never fails to deliver.

And in the backwoods of Texas, a 16-year-old girl is about to be caught up in a fierce, ethereal battle. Meet Roya Stark. She drowns every night in her dreams, spends her hours reading classic literature to avoid her family's ridicule, and is prone to premonitions - which are becoming more frequent.

a MUST READ for fans of the Divergent Trilogy!!
Revisado: 06-19-15
I was gifted this title by the talented Ms Klett in exchange for a honest review...
Now, with that out of the way...any fan of the Divergent or Hunger Games trilogies will really enjoy this book. Having grown up an outcast in her family and community, Roya finally finds a place of her own with the mysterious Lucidites. Our young reluctant heroine is thrust into a dangerous situation with, literally, the fate of the world on her shoulders. Along with her team they set out to end the threat to the middlings, dream travelers, and the world in general. This has the potential to be a great YA series and Elizabeth Klett does a fantastic job narrating.

Not your typical apocalypse
Revisado: 06-05-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
No. I think the way the story and the characters present themselves are done fairly well.
If you’ve listened to books by Scott Nicholson before, how does this one compare?
I've not listened to any of Mr Nicholson's previous works, but I'd be willing to lend them an ear...
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Mr Clay has a "commanding" voice (which is not a bad thing at all) but I think he could've softened it a bit in certain places perhaps? He did a fine job narrating and I was engaged the entire time. I think a broader range of inflection and tone would've boosted the performance rating.
Did After inspire you to do anything?
absolutely! It inspired me to go find the next book!
Any additional comments?
I was given a copy of this audio book in exchange for a fair review. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. The story was interesting from the beginning and hooked me right in. It's not your typical zombie or plague apocalypse. Without giving much away, I can say this...The earth has been zapped into a standstill leaving 3 scenarios for it's inhabitants...1) instant death, 2) unaffected, normal humans 3) zapheads. The best way I can describe the zapheads is to say that they reminded me of Stephen King's "Cell" and Romero's "The Crazies" I would definitely recommend this to other fans of post apocalyptic fiction.

Historia
Nate Wilder suffers from panic attacks triggered by news reports of world catastrophes even when, rationally, the events should not affect him. Nate becomes a prepper to help him cope with the anxiety, stocking a makeshift shelter. So when nuclear disaster actually strikes home, Nate must employ truly heroic courage or fold to his fears. But in the aftermath of the bombs, it quickly becomes apparent that surviving the attack is just the beginning - there is far worse yet to come.

loads of potential
Revisado: 06-04-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
yes and no. I would recommend the book as a time filler but I would warn them that it's a very slow start and it took me a little over 6 chapters to actually get interested and want to keep listening.
Would you ever listen to anything by Micah Ackerman again?
Yes. As an "end of the world" junkie, I felt this book had great potential. Hopefully some kinks have been worked out and the writing a bit more polished since the publication of "Wormwood".
What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kevin Pierce did a fine job narrating. I just wish he'd had better material.
Was Wormwood worth the listening time?
Alot of the time it was painfully slow.
Any additional comments?
I received this Audiobook in exchange for a fair review. The main character, Nate was hard to get invested in. He didn't come off as anxiety ridden, as described in the book. He seemed to be more neurotic and paranoid than anything else. The female character was like-able enough. I just couldn't get invested in these characters enough to really care what happened to them. The initial antagonist that started the chain of events that set off the apocalypse seemed to be over the top and a bit silly. There are bits of history and back story that are eluded to with several of the characters, but are left just as gaping holes. The book does end on a cliffhanger, so maybe they're just teasers to keep you reading the series? If you don't care what happens next, then it ends perfectly fine and serves as a decent time killing stand alone novel.
