Not what I expected.
Revisado: 04-06-20
Throughout the first part, I thought this was going to be just another soppy romance novel, but after the first few words of book two, I realized it was much more than that. Deception was only part of it. Sprinkle in a touch of theft, a dash of possible insanity, a spoonful of murder, and you have a recipe for an ingenious plot. You won't regret this fast paced read.

We all wonder about the afterlife. This book doesn't give an answer, but it does offer hope. What would you do to save the ones you love? Would you risk your own life, or throw someone under the bus?

Historia
Forty years ago, triplets Miriam, Louise, and Edward were swept up in a case of rural mass hysteria. Coerced into fabricating unspeakable lies about their first-grade teacher and her adult son, they were complicit in destroying two lives. Ever since, they have believed they are being followed by a presence still seeking retribution for their childhood sins. Unless their guilty consciences are conjuring as many monsters as their innocent minds once did.

Believe?
Revisado: 07-04-19
It is said we must believe when a child says he or she has been abused. But if words have been put into that child's mouth, lives can be destroyed. Even after listening to this tale, I'm still confused.

An excellent student from a poor, traditional family in Seoul, the narrator has absorbed the same message her whole life: Only a boy can provide the family with dignity and wealth. Not her. Not her three sisters. Receiving approval only for uncomplaining sacrifice, she has resolved to take on her family’s troubles. She is a good girl. And she knows what good girls must do.

I've found that often the sequal to a good book is not nearly as good as the first. Not so in this case. It is great to get to know the characters, and to follow them through their adventures. This book series jolts you into the reality of the lives of the families of monsters. What is it like for the wife, children?

Few books affect me that deeply, but this one certainly did. Whether you're a history buff, or just love a heart wrenching love story, this book is a must read. Any story about the hollicost calls to me. This book not only shows the reader what that horror was like, but what life was like before for the characters. What happened to the survivors? What happened to the perpetrators? Two young boys, who are closer than some brothers, are torn apart by war, reunited by peace. Yet a hidden secret threatens to tear them apart again.

Revisado: 05-05-19
This was a fast paced, didn't want to put down, kind of book, full of action, blood and guts. When your daughter's been kidnapped, you do whatever it takes. It helps if you are one of the baddest bad asses in the country. When Pierce Hunt goes up against the cartel, whose members have no compunctions about setting a young girl on fire...alive....anything goes...and it does.

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Truth is the real horror.
Revisado: 04-21-19
I love horror stories; vampires, werewolves, & especially zombies. But none of them holds a candle to the real horror that is North Korea. This book should never have been written , because none of it should have happened. The fact that it did...still does, is atrocious. There is no cruelty equal to that of mankind. There isn't much I can do to change the situation, but I can, and did buy this book, and that is a small contribution towards the author's quest. It is something you can do, too. Please read this book, if for no other reason than to know what truely goes on in parts of our world.

Revisado: 04-17-19
This is a very good short story and really should be a full novel. The end begs to be continued. It has every thing a horror story should have....ghosts, an attic, even a wizened old crone.
