Historia
Waking the Tiger offers a new and hopeful vision of trauma. It views the human animal as a unique being, endowed with an instinctual capacity. It asks and answers an intriguing question: Why are animals in the wild, though threatened routinely, rarely traumatized? By understanding the dynamics that make wild animals virtually immune to traumatic symptoms, the mystery of human trauma is revealed.

Monotonous Voice - Painful to Listen
Revisado: 06-04-23
I listened to the first 2 chapters. Narrator’s voice is painful, monotone and less than engaging. I tried to get past it and focus on the content but ultimately gave up.

Historia
Mary Gauthier was 12 years old when she was given her Aunt Jenny’s old guitar and taught herself to play with a Mel Bay basic guitar workbook. Music offered her a window to a world where others felt the way she did. Songs became lifelines to her, and she longed to write her own, one day. Then, for a decade, while struggling with addiction, Gauthier put her dream away and her call to songwriting faded. It wasn’t until she got sober and went to an open mic with a friend did she realize that she not only still wanted to write songs, she needed to.

Love Mary’s Soul!
Revisado: 12-03-22
Just finished this after listening to Brandi Carlisle and Rickie Lee Jones audio books 2 of my great sheroes - both uniquely deep and an honor to learn more about these women I love. I saw Mary perform at Sister’s folk festival in Oregon Oct 2021 and fell in love with her then. I couldn’t stop playing her music after that especially Mercy which makes me cry to this day every time I hear it. Hearing the journey of Mary’s life made me love her even more. A man who was trying to win my favor during the festival I met Mary at quipped at one point that he wanted my time w/o Mary along, which made me snarl at him even harder and just makes me laugh now. As a (semi) straight woman I literally fell for Mary, her voice, her soul, her ethos as I learned of her work with vets. She’s one very special lady and I will always have a crush on her. I hope to be lucky enough to hear her again someday. She is yet another inspiration for me to start my own writing journey i’ve put on the shelf my whole life. Blessings to our Mary Merry Minstrel xo

Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Deeply Deeply Moving
Revisado: 10-16-22
I saw Brandi in Napa this Summer - went alone and sat in the first row. I cried through much of that concert. Had I known what was the Newport folk festival, I would have traversed the country to have witnessed that miraculous soul stirring event. Brandi moved me long before I heard her story. I loved her words urging me/us to write our life at the end …. Something I know is waiting to be born, urged by friends to do it for many years. I love you Brandi - thank you for sharing your story. Now I have an understanding of why your voice moves me so much. I cried every time as i rewatched the YouTube videos of what you did with Joni, who has been my shero since childhood when I would paint her lyrics to songs as a tortured adolescent in a dysfunctional broken home. And Dolly! Thank you for sharing your real self with us. What a gift you are! What a gift authentic stories are!

Profoundly Moving - My Dearest Heroine
Revisado: 09-27-22
Having Rickie Lee speak in her own voice was incredibly rich with her nuance and emotion. I cried many times with and for her and relished her most vulnerable and personal story of her journey. It sealed my love for her. I wish i could reach out and hold her tight. Now I understand why her music pierced my heart immediately when I heard her first album. Love you SO RLJ ♥️🙏♥️

Historia
Wordsworth's The Prelude is the consummation of his achievement as the great founder of English romanticism. An autobiography in verse, it tells of his childhood in the Lake District, his student days in Cambridge, his passion for the French Revolution and his later disenchantment with it. It also tells of his personal journey to a belief in Nature as the great moral and spiritual force which shapes human life, but on which human society all too often turns its back.

Love Poetry - Could not appreciate This
Revisado: 04-04-22
I’m not sure why I ordered this book of prose. I know Wordswoth is an ‘important’ writer but I could not get over the language which is not contemporary English. I listened anyway but found it quite self congratulatory and boring. Nothing in this moved me.
