Historia
Businesswoman, Sam Phillips, was quite content focusing on her single life. At 37, she didn't have the time to explore. She was never supposed to be alone, not in this world. One devastating day would crush everything she had ever known, but deep down, she knew there was more to life than business. Alexis Foster wasn't looking for love. With work commitments only growing by the day, a life of "arrangements" as a high-class escort appeared to be the way forward. After all, at 25, Alexis had all the time in the world to settle down. A simple decision would change their lives.

One step forward, many steps back. Monotonal, and a struggle,
Revisado: 11-20-24
mmm... just nearing the end of the story, and not sure if it was really worth it. Not the worse book, but that could have been the performance.
I am not sure if the story, dialogue, or the narration that didn't allow me to connect with the characters, main or otherwise.
Am much as I like Cat Gould as a narrator, but I found her dialogue monotonal, very little inflection so I had trouble with the emotional pickup. although the voices of each character was very distinct, thus you are able to distinguish each one in a multi character interaction.
I found the characters inconsistent, for every step forward for their relationship, there is a stumbling block ( be it internal, or external), then it all goes to the beginning. and then one moment a little snarky, then oh, are we doing our usual after work drinks? and the secrecy....
it was a struggle, and I still felt the same doubt about if it was worth pushing myself through the listen as when I started.

Not to be ignored
Revisado: 09-25-23
What a story. I was unsure when I first started listening, but surely, and slowly, it pulled me in. The tempo of the book is sure and steady, never overwhelming me with too much action, but flows effortlessly between scenes that you reach the end much too quickly.
the relationships are there, not too in your face, and interrupting the action, but at the right amount, and treated with respect.
Will definitely be listening more of her works.

A good continuation from the previous book, and boy does it continue to give. A great listen, and I cannot wait to see how the story continues in the next one.

where's book three? I love the story, the writing, the narrator! excellent characterisation by both author and narrator, that I couldn't help but be sucked into Ayers/King universe again.

Such an enthralling story, that I couldn't stay away for long.
The author has weaved another fantastic story that covers just a short period of time, but it flows superbly. You can feel the highs and lows of the protagonists.
The narrator has done yet another fantastic job telling the story. Keeping the voices of character distinct and conveys their feelings well.

She came up with the concept in order to deal with the guilt of her late friend's passing. When she gets the opportunity to do a research study that might put the product on the market, she wastes no time in seizing the opportunity.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 01-21-20
Not a long story, an interesting concept, but a struggle to get through.
The writing was repetitive, both in dialogue and narrative. Some repetition is good, but I found this a tad excessive, as it seems that the same things are getting repeated, by all characters, not only in dialogue, but also in narrative.
The pacing of the story was off, not sure if it was the narration, or the writing itself, but what seems like mere moments in the book, were months, weeks, days, in the actual timeline. It made character development hard to accept.
With the pacing issues, and repetitiveness, I found it hard to connect with the characters. I couldn’t sympathise as I listened.
As previously mentioned, it was a struggle to listen to and I am not sure if I would recommend it.

Words cannot explain
Revisado: 01-20-20
Although it is set in the 80s, the story rings true even to this day.
The Protagonist is comfortable in her skin, but still shows her vulnerability when she strongly feels about things.
The narrative and tone of the different to modern books did not detract, but rather drew me in. I couldn't let it go, and didn't want it to end, even though it was inevitable.
World recommend this book to anyone.

It's short, but not short on story and characters.
If you are short on time, then this is worth the effort.
A good story strengthened by a great narrator.
