This book doesn't use a lot of Wizard of Ozery to wave away the realities of space travel, like the risk of rapid decompression and the effects of switching between gravities. I really enjoyed it and will be continuing the series.

This will be very popular with a certain demographic of young men who game, aren't very social, and probably own some article of clothing or drinkware that reads, "THAT'S WHAT I DO. I DRINK AND I KNOW THINGS."
I wanted to like it, but it runs into common mmo problems many LitRPGs avoid. The main character is thrust into a survival rpg with his coworkers, whom he feels disdain for, and they all immediately fit overused tropes. There's McFlourish, the dashing enviable leader man. The Blonde, the MC's secret crush, and an ultra beautiful fainting violet of a pacifist healer. Roadkill, the female receptionist who dared to be social to the MC pre-change and consequently gets almost immediately injured then is felt to have deserved it by the MC. The rest of the team are so paper flat, they're mostly just a peanut gallery for the MC to bounce dialogue off of.
The very first time the group 'makes camp' there is no detail given about how they would set up said camp, all the details that could enrich the scene are completely glossed over, like how they started a fire and cooked food. Theres just a long supposition by the MC about how inefficient the placement of the camp was, and how he would do it better in future.
The whole litrpg scenario is setup to encourage open murder hoboing and even rewards PVP killing, which all the ordinary people suddenly stuck in this situation immediately start utilizing. I found this unrealistic. Yet somehow, even after being attacked by other people, the MCs group thinks they can hide out for the duration. They have to be coaxed to grind their skills up by the 'just waiting for his time to shine, always right' MC.
That was the biggest break for me. Even the ultra brutal Dungeon Crawler Carl series imposes negative marks for pvp deaths. I didn't make it far, so perhaps it gets addressed, but it doesn't really get explained what happens to the entire population of earth, like infants, caretakers, minors, the disabled, the elderly, etc. I also get bored when magic handles everything extraneous to murder hoboing. Having items drop as rewards or from corpses is fine, but where are you getting your fabrics? Your food? Is there agriculture? Plumbing? Electricity? How are you processing your kills into usable things like leather? I'm not likely to make it far enough into this series to figure these things out because reading about how a terry goodkind carries his tropey office workers around a wooded survival scenario to murder people and kill wildlife isnt really grabbing me.

All 10 books considered together were a solid 4/5 read for me. An 8.5/10 overall. If you like cozy cotton candy mystery books with a bit of paranormal for flare, these will be right up your alley. 60+ hours of enjoyable content for 1 credit was an absolute steal. Love them.
I wish they divided up the books a little easier, instead of just numerically stacking them into indefinite chapters, but these are definitely going into my repeatable reading list.

I loved everything about this book. A more serious tone than his other books. There is a lot here about our reality being shaped by our perceptions, and how difficult it can be to break away from our beliefs, even at the expense of our own safety or the safety of others. I couldn't put it down. Its not as soft as his other reads but I've already queued it up to listen again.

I haven't gotten through the first book and I already love it so much. The characters are rich and funny, the world is well fleshed out for a small town. It's absolutely delightful.
I've been in a reading slump for months and this is exactly what I was looking for! I highly recommend if you want a light funny read which does a gentle job touching on subjects like loss and healing from bereavement, which by our 30s and 40s most of us will have some experience with.
This book kept getting pushed at me by Audible's algorithm, and I mistook it for a different author's series I didnt care for, bc it included an old grossly voiced talking cat, (I like cats, but the voice was so slurpy and glorpy, it made my skin crawl. Anyone whose been woken by the sound of their dog licking themselves will understand.) But I was finally so desperate for a new read, I took the plunge, and wow do I regret not leaping sooner. This is not that series at all. Its fantastic! I love it.

Zanier than his sci fi books. Loved it! Wil Wheaton is solid as always. His audiobooks bring me sanity while my twin toddlers are kicking me in the face.

I liked this series because of the eccentric characters and absurdist humor. I've never been able to get through her other books, because the characters often act with extreme reckless immaturity for their age, then the rest of the book is everyone laying down at their feet to praise them for existing. Thats whats happening in this book and whats been slowly taking over the series. The plot has completely stalled out, and its just people acting like flat lifeless bullies to each other, and justifying it with the flimsiest rationality. Then it'll switch to the men doing huge uncomfortably awkward multi-page expositions on how amazing women they barely know are. Everyone magically has time to explain out every single thought they've ever had in the middle of what should be tense or fast paced situations. Even Edgar gets portrayed as more of a protector than eccentricity incarnate as he had been in the earlier books. I couldn't finish, it just felt like it was for women who used to be the school bullies and now think they deserve to have smoke blown up their backsides 24/7. It was icky.
