Historia
Alexandra Posadzki’s ground-breaking coverage in the Globe and Mail exposed one of the most spectacular boardroom and family dramas in Canadian corporate history—one that has pitted the company’s extraordinarily powerful chairman and controlling shareholder, Edward Rogers, against not only his own management team but also the wishes of his mother and two of his sisters. Posadzki takes us inside a company that touches the lives of millions of Canadians, challenging what we thought we knew about corporate governance and who really holds the power.

Very good but less about family and more about the merger
Revisado: 08-27-24
There is a lot of missing family stuff that could have made it much more interesting. Maybe one day as things clear away the truth can come out and show that are a lot of scummy business people out there who lie on a regular basis.

In this book, he outlines a path for achieving this ancient, but urgently necessary way of living.

Lots of good examples
Revisado: 07-10-23
It was a good set of stories. It’s up to you to act on them and interpret them for your own life. That is a good thing since a set of steps does not always work for everyone.

Historia
At the end of World War II, the United States was considered the victor over tyranny and a champion of freedom. But it was clear—to some—that the Soviet Union was already seeking to expand and foment revolution around the world, and the American government’s strategy in response relied on the secret efforts of a newly formed CIA. Chronicling their fascinating lives, Scott Anderson follows the exploits of four spies. Despite their ambitions, time and again their efforts went awry, thwarted by ham-fisted politicking and ideological rigidity at the highest levels of the government.

very good tale of the CIA
Revisado: 04-17-23
This was a long and well written history of the early days. Fascinating details of the OSS to CIA transition. It also makes clear the problems of politics and meddling with complex issues. I am not sure what the solution is in good vs bad but at least someone has to try. The same problems exist today and there are still lots of bad people out there with no global repercussions on them. Populations are still at risk and no one is there to help them in a reasonable time frame. It’s sad.

Nice Venetian mystery again with modern politics in there as well. The world can be depressing too much of the time.

Historia
When Chen’s parents are incinerated before his eyes by a blast of ball lightning, he devotes his life to cracking the secret of the mysterious natural phenomenon. His search takes him to stormy mountaintops, an experimental military weapons lab, and an old Soviet science station. The more he learns, the more he comes to realize that ball lightning is just the tip of a new frontier in particle physics. Although Chen’s quest provides a purpose for his life, his reasons for chasing his elusive quarry come into conflict with soldiers and scientists who have motives of their own.

Cool alternative to western sci-fi
Revisado: 12-07-20
It stays mainstream but it’s cool with a different historical backstory. The science is fun and plausible and fits in well with the current world.

Historia
The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Good ending to the stories

However, I thought it was a bit too abrupt. I am not sure how it would have been done differently, but it seemed like a rush ending.

Depressing and good
Revisado: 03-05-20
Well written and read. Depressing with hope around every corner. A bit of last from the past about nuclear winter. I had forgotten those old day of it being an option that is now replaced with global warming I guess, which is not quite as hopeless.

Historia
Twenty years ago, it was as if someone turned on a light. The future blazed into existence with each deliberate word that William Gibson laid down. The winner of Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards, Neuromancer didn't just explode onto the science fiction scene - it permeated into the collective consciousness, culture, science, and technology.Today, there is only one science fiction masterpiece to thank for the term "cyberpunk," for easing the way into the information age and Internet society.

Great story
Revisado: 12-03-18
Great story but the audio was medium. The acting and reading was great but the low voice of the male character was often inaudible in a car or other noisy environments. The dynamic range was too high since the female voice was bright and clear but too much when the volume was turned up to hear the low male voice.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Good fun space opera style
Revisado: 11-06-18
I enjoyed it a lot. Lots of different guilds and families but not as tedious as that style normally is. Some more technology would be nice but the story is a good one.
