not my taste

sorry, I found it a little insipid. The reader's high pitched, sing-songy voice didn't help

Historia
New York Times best-selling author of Find Me and Call Me by Your Name André Aciman returns to the essay form in Homo Irrealis to explore what the present tense means to artists who cannot grasp the here and now. Irrealis is not about the present, or the past, or the future, but about what might have been but never was - but could in theory still happen. Homo Irrealis is a deep reflection of the imagination's power to shape our memories under time's seemingly intractable hold.

Banal
Revisado: 04-19-22
I didn't finish, but started at least each chapter. Self-absorbed, superficial musings. This is not an inspirational, life-affirming journey.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Not for everyone
Revisado: 11-04-21
This tale took non-linear story telling to a new and unfortunate level. Like flipping through TV stations, interspersed with commercials, and finally even in the middle of sentences. I ended up with a mish-mash storyline, details and plots lost between the dizzying transitions, and a mounting frustration. Not engaging, not interesting, and certainly not an enjoyable read.

Historia
You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

so great to read beautifully thought-out prose, examining aging and life underlined with comedy and mystery.
