a dry classic needs a dynamic dramatic reader like curry. and he enhances this hard science fiction original. I will be going around saying "what" like him for a while.

My Favorite Book/ Movie Combo. Both are excellent! with the best Sci-Fi narrator in the business reading. Perfect!

narration is flat. the short stories I did fully comprehend I did like. but one or two were just confusing. the bull fighting and boxing ones were quite entertaining. Hemmingway is at his best when he does story like those. but hills like white elephants was very disappointing and yes I understood what it was about. it needed more backstory like most of them to give the reader the full emotional effect. also the one about the roman soldiers made me angry. why were they speaking like the gangster in the previous story. but overall I was the portrayal of native and African Americans that soured my feeling on this collection of tales. they are a snapshot in time and we have progressed societally to much. its best not to use this as your time machine.

the second book is just as offbeat and hilarious as the first. Martin Freeman is a great actor. but I miss Stephen Fry's narration.

if you like the Richard Sharpe series from the same author you will enjoy this book. the performance is a little flat but bluntly gets the point across.

I recommend this to anyone who will listen to me. If you like dry British wit and philosophy this is a must read. Mr. Fry does a great job.

although you can tell Croshaw is a good writer. but this effort seem to be beyond the scope of his ability. the characters seemed more like stereotypes the real believable people. after a while you forget they have names and think of the as they are betrayed by the author. which reminds me the author narrates the book and does great. a real professional job he might have a future as a voice actor. I was drawn to this audiobook by my love of political satire, Fantasy magic, mystery, and comedy. this was touted by audible as a perfect mixture of these elements. it just felt like Yahtzee was to ambitious to properly marry and develop these concepts. I was left under satisfied on all four accounts. it just felt to busy jumping from Magical fantasy to Murder Mystery messed with the realism of the book. it was jarring. also from comedy to political satire in the same paragraph only blunted both.
this book was entertaining despite it's flaws. the problem seems to be my high expectations. as a audible original amazon hyped this book a little to much, that's not the author fault. Croshaw should not quit his day job he appears to be more successfully multitalented than this book was multi themed. my suggestion is to not put any pre conceived expectations on this book just enjoy it for what is differently entertaining!

this book is completely different than the giver. the community (Giver) is the polar opposite of the Village (gathering Blue) there are many examples of this and I think Lowery's intension is that the reader pick out the differences and compares the two. the theme/lesson is the same in both books. but the giver is more interesting for two reasons. 1) the futuristic community is more compelling than the primitive village. and the plot arch are opposite. where the giver increases in suspense. gathering blue decreases with Kira on trial at the beginning and finding acceptness at the end. once again this was Lowery's intention. Jonas became isolated by his memories and Kira as the visual link to the memories became important in the village. you have to wait until the next book to find out what happened to Jonas. but is you look closely the link between the book is obvious. narration is good and there is no awful music. the production itself is better.

narrations is bad for Jonas very squaky teen. decent for the giver albiet gruff old man. the combination is almost unbearable. the music is distracting. all in all the worst production of any book I have listened to on audible.

this is tough, I enjoyed the book as a whole but it irritated me greatly. before I seemly trash one of literature most beloved classics. let me tale you the good. the narration is very good, different voices for a large cast of characters. some sound similar but the major characters all are very distinct. even the count's multiple personas have a different voice. I kept checking to make sure it was not a full cast. there is some production problems (Bird Chirps and distracting echoes) but the narrations makes up for it. if you decide to get a unabridged version this is the one to spend money or a credit on. but I suggest the abridge version. this is a long tedious book and a lot of it seems to be superfluous. I am a bit of stickler for abridgement I believe that you should read a authors work as they intended. but this book changes my mine or at least shakes my conviction. it was serialized for popularity sake and the unabridged version surfers greatly. there are also pointless characters thrown in to appeal to that days audience. completing this book has been a personal goal since I was young. I have tried to read it in print serval times. and am always instantly hooked but loose interest about 100 pages after he escapes prison. in my view point the book stalls in Italy, just stops all intrigue and it take a lot of time to pick back up or even relate to the stories previous events.
