It was too random to be entertaining, and not true enough to be interesting. There are some great norm minutes with that classic cadence and dry humor, but overall I found it pretty underwhelming. I’d rather just watch his standup for free on

This book has a simple and concise style, and it’s about as easy a book to read as you can find. However, it lacks the magic and strong emotions that I look for in a Murakami story. It has some moments, and there’s some mystery to keep the story going, but overall it just leaves the readers thinking… “huh… okay… Meh.”

Wind up and Kafka are much better choices for those interested in Murakami.

While this translation is inferior to others, the reading of this story makes it well worth the day and a half worth of this story. This is a profound book, one that will require engagement and reflection. Our characteristics, evilness and goodness alike, are on full display in the characters of this novel. Ultimately, we are left with a candid reflection on morality and the meaning and life, and it’s it’s final epilogue a genuine appeal for us all to accept ourselves and love one another.

It’s hard to put into words how wonderful this book (and translation) is. It’s high and low brow. It’s sincere and ironic. It’s absurd and realist. There’s a reason why it’s a classic, and more than that often credited as the greatest book of all time— it very well might be! Vale!

This book is an excellent and unique perspective on the destruction of war. It handles the heavy themes tactfully and has enough joyous moments to lead you through the horrors of Nazi Germany. The reading is perfect in tone and I highly recommend that all people, especially Americans and Germans read this book.

This book is filled with great prose and diction but by god it is one of the most boring and uneventful plots I’ve ever seen. Every character is unlikeable and their petty social issues mean nothing. One could argue the same could be said about Gatsby but at least that novel had the mystery of gatsby and a murder. This book doesn’t hold up. It’s boring and the ending is pathetic.

A harrowing, absurd, poetic, bizarre, yet poignant story. It not only answers many challenging and perplexing questions about politics, race, and life , but then begs you to reconsider whether those questions are even worth asking. Joe Morton does an absolutely brilliant job bringing the multiple voices of the novel to life. Highly suggested!

Love it or hate it, this book presents itself as it is. A bizarre and ironically simple yet complex story that makes the reader question all morality and meaning in life. The translation is far superior to the Gilbert one. The audiobook is perfect and the reader, Jon Davis' captures the first person tone of meursault perfectly. This is a must have for any serious modern lit fan!

A great classic. Some issues come up with misogyny and racism, but generally it is an amazing and powerful novel. The audiobook is super well read/acted. Highly recommended!

Shakespeare deserves to be heard not read. This is what audiobooks are for! Highly recommended!
