Historia
Terry Crews spent decades cultivating his bodybuilder physique and bravado. On the outside, he seemed invincible: he escaped his abusive father, went pro in the NFL, and broke into the glamorous world of Hollywood. But his fixation with appearing outwardly tough eventually turned into an exhausting performance in which repressing his emotions let them get the better of him—leading him into addiction and threatening the most important relationships in his life. Now Crews is sharing the raw, never-before-told story of his quest to find the true meaning of toughness.

A brilliant book that highlights the struggles of his life, but also addresses those issues in a very constructive way. His thoughts on race are the best I've come across in a long time.

Historia
The American standard system of measurement is a unique and odd thing to behold with its esoteric, inconsistent standards: 12 inches in a foot, three feet in a yard, 16 ounces in a pound, 100 pennies to the dollar. For something as elemental as counting and estimating the world around us, it seems like a confusing tool to use. So how did we end up with it? Most of the rest of the world is on the metric system, and for a time in the 1970s America appeared ready to make the switch.

Stop telling stories. Start selling them! The business world is rightly obsessed with the incredible power of a good story. Unfortunately too many of us take that to mean that it is our own story that’s important. It’s not. The magic happens not when we tell our customers the story of our past, but when we sell them a new story of their future. One in which we play a part. As a salesperson you have two jobs. Job no. two of the story seller is to help clients and customers slay their dragon. Job no. one of the story seller is to help them see their dragon.

Immensely Important
Revisado: 06-09-21
I thoroughly enjoyed the authors' take on the role of big business and government in the society that we are building. Whilst some roads can lead down a path that would only benefit some, the authors propose a number of course adjustments that can change the path to more prosperous one for all.
The authors have a deep understanding of the environment due to many years of operating at a high level. This increases the gravitas of their arguments and make for a truly insightful and enjoyable listen.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone working in large corporation or government.

Historia
For women in tech, Silicon Valley is not a fantasy land of unicorns, virtual reality rainbows, and 3D-printed lollipops, where millions of dollars grow on trees. It's a "Brotopia", where men hold all the cards and make all the rules. Vastly outnumbered, women face toxic workplaces rife with discrimination and sexual harassment, where investors take meetings in hot tubs and network at sex parties. In this powerful exposé, Bloomberg TV journalist Emily Chang reveals how Silicon Valley got so sexist despite its utopian ideals....

Double Standards
Revisado: 08-20-19
This book was a big waste of my time. The author promotes double standards by criticizing men for behaving in a certain way, whilst at the same time applauding women for doing the same. I have no doubt that harassment in the workplace is a big problem, but harrresment and hiring someone from your university is quite a few steps apart. In the end the book underwrites a short-sighted solution to the problem.

Great piece of journalism
Revisado: 07-05-19
The book is written in a journalistic style meaning that nothing in the book is made up or improvised. At first I thought it might be less exciting or even become boring, but in the end I was very impressed by the work that went into this book. The author gives a comprehensive account of what happened and the realistic approach makes you feel like you were really there.

A sensible and intruiging outlook on life
Revisado: 05-21-19
I enjoyed the 12 rules and the way the author is able to use a number of stories to explain each rule. He is able to bring together stories from history, science, phsycology and his personal life to make a strong case for why each rule is important to avoid the chaos of life.
The book was sometimes a bit difficult to follow, given the extreme depth and wide range of the stories, but overall I really enjoyed it. Also loved how he brings Christianity and the Bible into the mix without alienating those that does not subscribe to it's teachings.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Very detailed guide on investment
Revisado: 05-03-18
The book is extremely detailed and takes a lot of concentration. I believe this is the type of material that one would need to digest a number of times before fully understanding it. It does, however, make a strong case for prudent investment over a long time horizon.
