I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia many years ago. Much has evolved since then but my doctors weren’t necessarily up to speed. So, I have suffered a long time. This book has revealed to me research, medical help and practical advice that I have needed for a long time. The narration is well paced so I didn’t feel overwhelmed and there is guidance for a daily routine (with exercises) to help my days go better. I am happy to have found this practical and well researched source of information.

While different from the movie version in some aspects, the book is just as endearing. I found the beginning chapters a little slow and Richard’s anxiety was annoying to me after while. But by the half I was just as engaged as I am when watching the movie. The best thing about the book over the film is that the feelings and relationship of Richard and Elise are more developed. We get to understand these two people and the foundations which led to such an instant and intense love affair. The relationship in the film can seem a bit laughable. I mean, come on, they were together less than 48 hours, lol! But the deeper probing of the characters in the book brings a validity to this whirlwind romance that just wasn’t able to be explored in the film. *Spoiler Alert: Elise is a feminist!* :)
