Great story but an appalling narrator
Revisado: 03-13-23
Peter James has written a great story with wonderful twists and turns. However, the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce a lot of the words i.e. Diamonte, Melbourne, scallops, Shiraz, to name a few. These words are used quite frequently and it is so annoying to hear them mispronounced over and over and over again. You’d think editors &/or directors would have picked up on these things. Also the Australian accents were outrageously bad.

Awesome
Revisado: 01-23-23
This story was gripping, lots of twists and turns and I really, really enjoyed it. I was so disappointed when it ended. It was one of those books that you want to get to the end of find out what happened but you don't want to finish it. I can't write it any better than to say, it was excellent.

What a ridiculous book.
Revisado: 09-16-22
This was totally unrealistic. Any real homicide police team that worked the this book did wouldn't be allocated any more cases. The lead detective was absolutely unprofessional to the point of idiocy. I would never recommend this book to anyone and will not be reading any more of the series and if you wise you won't waste your money or your credits on this author.

Narrator was boring
Revisado: 08-16-22
Story might have been good but the narrator was absolutely horrendous he sounded so bored the whole time and it made the story sound boring. Don't think I can cope with a whole other book if it's the same narrator

Stopped half way through. It was so slow. Too much religious and just do very slow & hard to follow. Narrator didn't help no variation in the whole book. This is one author I'll not return to

A complete crime fiction box set! Homicide detective Thomas Prescott may be retired—but a serial killer, a high-profile murder, an ill-fated cruise, and a chilling small-town crime add more than enough excitement to his hard-earned rest. This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

Loved it
Revisado: 02-04-22
The plots are pure fantasy jumping all over the place. The solutions are absolutely wild & out of left field, with many twists & turns. Many of which you'll never guess. Totally unpredictable.
All of which make the books extremely suspenseful, entertaining & delightful to hear.
Nick Pirog has been added to my list of favourite authors. Although I'm about to read bk 5, I can't wait for bk 6 in the Thomas Prescott series.

Very annoying
Revisado: 01-26-22
This was annoying thanks to the appalling narration. The court scenes were terrible as the narrator used exactly the same offhand intonation for all witnesses with NO variation. All the "I did", "I didn't", it was", "it wasn't" etc etc. were so repetitive.
All in all it was disappointing enough for me to actually write a review.

Revisado: 12-07-21
Far to much gratuitous violence. The performance was good but the storyline wasn't one I enjoyed. Not enough action from the "good" guys. I don't think I'll go further in the series.

Detective Stephen Moran hasn't seen Holly Mackey since she was a nine-year-old witness to the events of Faithful Place. Now she's 16 and she's shown up outside his squad room, with a photograph and a story. Even in her exclusive boarding school, in the graceful golden world that Stephen has always longed for, bad things happen and people have secrets.

Tana French is amazing!!!
Revisado: 09-27-21
All her books have been hard to put down but the secret place has been riveting. I have literally done nothing but listen to it for 2 days. I've even missed my TV shows & cancelled coffee with a friend just to keep listening. I totally recommend her books to everyone, especially The Secret Place. Each book is better than the last. Tana French is truely a storyteller - she joins the ranks of other great storytellers such as Jodi Piccoult & Stephen King.

Another great book from Jane Harper
Revisado: 01-02-21
This author is amazing - every book has been excellent, pulling me in gradually until I was well and truly hooked. I listened to It in 2 sittings but that was only because I fell asleep (it was very late though). I missed a movie I wanted to watch cause I couldn't stop listening. Steve Shanahan was excellent too. A book can be ruined because of bad narration but a good narrator enhances a great book enormously as it has in this case. I totally recommend this book to everyone, as I recommend all Jane Harper's books.
