Granular Narrator
Revisado: 06-07-24
Narrator has very low raspy voice. Very hard to make out words. Public domain version better.

Historia
Civilization was born 8,000 years ago, between the floodplains of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, when migrants from the surrounding mountains and deserts began to create increasingly sophisticated urban societies. In the cities that they built, half of human history took place. In Babylon, Paul Kriwaczek tells the story of Mesopotamia from the earliest settlements seven thousand years ago to the eclipse of Babylon in the sixth century BCE. Bringing the people of this land to life in vibrant detail, the author chronicles the rise and fall of power during this period.

Excellent Listen Despite Some Wrong Dates
Revisado: 03-20-24
Excellent book. I need to compare with the paperback I have as well, but the audiobook misquoted Ussher's date for the flood as 1491 BC. This date is actually Ussher's date for the Exodus. Ussher puts the flood at 2348 BC +/-.

Historia
The Bible as we know it today is best understood as a process, one that begins in the tenth century BCE. In this revelatory account, a world-renowned scholar of Hebrew scripture joins a foremost authority on the New Testament to write a new biography of the Book of Books, reconstructing Jewish and Christian scriptural histories, as well as the underappreciated contest between them, from which the Bible arose. The Making of the Bible is the most comprehensive history yet told of the world's best-known literature, revealing its buried lessons and secrets.

Blathering away....

Little structure with overly long written chapters and audible chapters. I typically want texts like this as a resource where good information can easily be found again, but it is unworkable in that fashion. Some books require dissection from which to fully benefit but not in Audible format. Audible take note: as someone with hundreds of Audible books, no more historical nonfiction books with 150 page chapters.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Historia
In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.

CRAPPY AUDIBLE PLATFORM -- FANTASTIC CONTENT
Revisado: 05-20-21
This is obviously a podcast that Audible is trying to incorporate to provide more free content. The podcast itself is fantastic, but the production by Audible sucks. The program initially was initially started on my web browser, but later could not be pulled up despite repeated attempts. The program was stuck "buffering". I tried other books to see if my internet speed was the issue, and it is not. Rather, it is Audible's system on this podcast. This caused me to also loose the location where I had left off. Makes me want to avoid Audible podcasts for now.
