Historia
When Inversgail welcomes home native daughter and best-selling environmental writer Daphne Wood for her tenure as the author-in-residence for Inversgail schools, Janet Marsh and her business partners at Yon Bonnie Books look forward to hosting a book signing for her. However, Daphne's people skills have developed a few rough edges after living alone in the Canadian wilderness for years and working with her is difficult. Things only become more complicated once she arrives. That night, a young man - an American who'd spent a night in the B&B above Yon Bonnie Books - is found dead outside a pub.

I liked it!
Revisado: 06-07-23
I enjoy this sweet group of lovely female characters and their endeavors! One character became a bit annoying, but the annoyance had a purpose and that’s ok. This book is a nice, easy listen.

Imagine a London where magic is real...real, but feared. This is Eliza Braxton's London, and she has always accepted her place in it gladly. As one of the Riftborn, her magic has relegated her to the servant class, where she dutifully serves as the lady's maid in one of the most powerful households in the country. There, she uses her remarkable powers of persuasion to keep Elder Hallewell's rebellious daughter in the path to an arranged match of power and prosperity. Eliza has never questioned her loyalty...until now.

Loved the story!
Revisado: 02-13-23
I truly loved the story and the narrator had a lovely voice that added to the smooth mysterious feel of the story. But like others have said, the narrator was a bit much. Voice quality is lovely but a little too heavy on her enunciations for much (not all) of the book. I still don’t regret this buy-a great book!

Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

A happy unexpected surprise!
Revisado: 01-06-23
I almost judged this book by its cover and moved on, but am so glad I didn’t! It’s not a child’s story like I expected but a Dungeons and Dragons feel (not usually my interest). I loved the detail of the main character in his critical thinking through a series of unfortunate events outside of his control. I really enjoyed listening to this audible book!

Historia
When Finlay Ashowan joins the staff of the King and Queen of Daxaria, he’s an enigma. No one knows where he comes from or how he came to be where he is, which suits Fin just fine. He’s satisfied simply serving as the royal cook, keeping nosy passersby out of his kitchen, and concocting some truly uncanny meals. But Fin’s secret identity doesn’t stay hidden for long. After all, it’s not every day a house witch and his kitten familiar, Kraken, take to meddling in imperial affairs.

Historia
Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

I really enjoyed this story, it’s flow, and the narration! I don’t like terrifying or gory stories and this was a perfectly spooky and well told story!

Historia
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Historia
Beginning with opium, the “joy plant,” which has been used for 10,000 years, Thomas Hager tells a captivating story of medicine. His subjects include the largely forgotten female pioneer who introduced smallpox inoculation to Britain, the infamous knockout drops, the first antibiotic, which saved countless lives, the first antipsychotic, which helped empty public mental hospitals, Viagra, statins, and the new frontier of monoclonal antibodies. This is a deep, wide-ranging, and wildly entertaining book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and the authors perspective on the topics which cause me to reevaluate how I have previously viewed many things. I appreciate the attention to unique details in the history of medicine! The narration was very well done!

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

I'm in absolute awe!
Revisado: 11-11-18
The way this author wrote her story, the reader does not simply hear and sympathize with Tara's story. The reader actually lives through and experiences the good, bad, and ugly! This book brought out so much emotion! I was yelling...outloud, I was crying, my heart broke over and over! I could understand WHY she made many of the decisions she did through her life. I have never read book where an author truly captured the experience and internal turmoil of developing self identity in spite of oppression. Many people can tell their story, but very few can allow you to live through it with them! What I loved most (in addition to her receiving the education that she coveted!) was that she could direct her anger without accusing, insulting others or portraying martyrdom. She shows that an educated person doesn't look to accuse, but to understand WHY people make the choices they do...and then have the self dignity to withdraw for self preservation/protection. If I ever have a chance to meet this incredible woman...I would love to simply hug her and say Thank You!
