really good narration
Revisado: 11-20-24
the story has a few cases where intelligent people clearly don't make the best decisions ... I guess it is intended to ramp up the intensity.
however the narration is so good it kind of makes up for all the flaws

Frank W. Abagnale was one of the most daring con men, forgers, imposters, and escape artists in history. In his brief but notorious criminal career, Abagnale donned a pilot's uniform and copiloted a Pan Am jet, masqueraded as the supervising resident of a hospital, practiced law without a license, passed himself off as a college sociology professor, and cashed over $2.5 million in forged checks, all before he was 21. His story is now a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

This book seriously needs a complete, rewrite and update
Many of her examples, and some of her means of analysis, feel like they come from decades to go, and really have been supplanted by newer perspectives

Charlie Besson is tense and sweating as he prepares for an insane job interview. His car is idling, like his life, outside the Hollywood mansion of Kathi Kannon. The Kathi Kannon, star of stage and screen and People Magazine’s worst dressed list. She needs an assistant. He needs a hero. Kathi is an icon, best-selling author, and an award winning actress, most known for her role as Priestess Talara in a blockbuster sci-fi film. She’s also known in another role: crazy. Admittedly so. Famously so. Fabulously so, as Charlie quickly discovers.

Extremely good. Recommend and then some.
Revisado: 11-03-23
Thus author personal note thanks so many writers he’s known along the way, and credits what he’s learned from them.
(Including the most famous of them.)
But this writer has plenty of his own original genius to share, whatever he gained along the way from others.
The book is such a gorgeous and generous combination of storytelling, characters become real, and sweet delicacy.
I stumbled across this book and thought it might be entertaining. I completely underestimated what I would find.
To the author: I think I now must read more of you.
And thank you for this work.

Too make celebs, needs density.
Revisado: 03-08-23
Not quite enough dense substance;
(One regular episode released so far)
it so far all feels too much like a daytime talk show where the host and guest are “presenting to a friendly audience”
(instead of talking candidly in the way they might do in private.)
The latter would give a better result, and denser valuable content.
Also, way way too many celeb guests are planned. I wish there were NONE, even if I like the celebs now on the schedule.
Many of those celeb/famous/high-achieving persons are quite admirable.
But I would prefer to hear mostly “ordinary” voices. Celebs already have public platforms. Their voices are already far more likely to be heard.
They are, relatively, among the privileged.
I love Michelle. What an incredible attitude, what a great person. Hope this podcast evolves.
Hope the producer(s) are aware:
famous people talking w other celebs can get a bit old. If that’s where this podcast is going, I’ll prob check out after a while.
[Since my “planning to listen” list is only overloaded a like billion times or something, so I have alternatives and “need to listens” pulling on me.]
I would also like to hear the podcast takes some non-celeb-guested “deep dives” over a season, or over several episodes.
Just me:
I tune into a podcast or a conversational listen for the substance …
and I want the content to be either very very dense or very very funny.
I don’t tune in for the famous people.
And I sure don’t want “daytime talk show” content, no matter how uplifting.
That format is way too much filler/platitudes, and mutual congratulation,
I want a podcast to be as good/informative as either a deep dive book, or as funny/entertaining as a comedy special on HBO.
All the best to this podcast and the listeners! Im very interested in seeing in how this evolves.

Reissued for the 20th anniversary of Diana's death, this sensational best seller is an explosive account of her life, from the man who was by her side throughout its most turbulent period. In 1981 Lady Diana Spencer was seen by many as a lifeline for the outdated Windsor line. But Diana didn't follow the script. Instead she brought a revolution. Patrick Jephson was Diana's closest aide and adviser during her years of greatest public fame and deepest personal crisis.

Recollection of what seems to be an honest man
Revisado: 03-03-23
This memoir is personal, and it’s written as though there is no agenda about the qualities of the primary subject
Mr. Jephson both admired the princess and was victim of her failings.
He seems to carry no resentment some years later as he wrote this book
His psychological and personal perspective are complex detailed and are full of empathy and inside

Historia
Although clinical research has been conducted on narcissism as a disorder, less is known about its effects on victims who are in toxic relationships with partners with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Individuals with this disorder engage in chronic devaluation and manipulation of their partners, a psychological and emotional phenomenon known as "narcissistic abuse". Unfortunately, the full extent of what narcissistic abuse entails is not taught in any psychology class or diagnostic manual.

needs a pdf with links
Revisado: 08-27-21
much is quoted materials from elsewhere.
also much is links to outside decreference materials, these should be in an accompanying downloadable text.
it works be useful if the writer allowed to reader to first become completely familiar with the toxic patterns described, and then clearly differentiate those from normal or healthy patterns: so that the fair-monded reader can clarify what is toxic. and what is within reasonable boundaries.

Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

overall ok but too many cliches

decent overall for what it is. but way too much drooling over looks and over expensive products and experiences; most of the complications ought have been predicted by the characters themselves and circumvented in advance.
characters need much more depth.
simply could have been much more than it was.

A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account. Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps.

Good info, analysis, and understanding.
MM is a bold operator of the first order, and her career will be fascinating to watch. Her great failings seem to be an addiction to self-marketing endless myths of great personal virtue (quite against all factual evidence), and a constant temptation to exaggeration and factual fabrication. And also a habit of massive, ambition-driven, minute-by-minute insincerity.
However, as I have watched her actions since her wedding: I'd never bet against her.
MM (and her practices and methods) will, I hope, be a magnet for serious biographers. She's earned that. She's at least as energetic and bold as the more famous of our internet billionaires.
Harry may also find his way toward a career he values; he seems to be on the way toward promoting psychological treatment access, which is a huge positive if he handles it well.
i hope Harry finds a great path; he seems like he is normally a nice guy; and since they now have children, I wish them every *honorable* success.
While I have cause to regret strongly so many of their choices since the wedding, those choices are in stone now. So ... they will move forward, and I hope it goes well (sans using royalty and the royal family as a promotional factor; they've gotten their mileage there.) Surely no one wants more damage.
I hope MM and Harry stop finding ways to spin/invent "facts", and stop finding excuses to denigrate other persons and organizations during the process of pushing their own personal narratives and brands forward.
Kudos to Lady C for ferocious fact-finding and penetrating understanding. She's been proven right before, and she will be proven right this time as well.
I hope she does a follow-up book or books; MM and Harry have been so busy that this book already needs a "part 2".
The MM and Harry marketing and business teams must find these two to be clients with narrative possibilities and boldness like no other.
So let's see what's next.
