Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

the thirsty author clearly living vicariously through her characters.

this book has little to no story.
it's twilight with dragons: the girl will have an exposition for pages at a time about how she can't lover her enemy, etc etc and then another page about his muscles. it's quite vapid reading much like twilight.
the overall story itself is quite predictable within the tropes of Sci fi.
if someone recommends this book in tik tok, I have to unfollow them because their opinion on good storyline development is definitely trash if they believe this story is worth listening to.
my girlfriend and I never finished this book because we thought it shallow/ boring/ predictable/ little to no world development/ challenges.
just bad writing as a whole.

one of the few Sci fi books I didn't finish. can't believe it's being made into a show; the book was so boring that even the "flashes" of insight were banal and fundamentally boring as heck. just overall don't understand the hype this and fourth wing are getting. both are not good

this podcast was good until they started inserting their own dramatizations & sounds effects. literally skipped a couple of minutes every podcast season 2
oh and there was like 3-5 minutes of ads/music that suck. the background music is quite frankly annoying while y'all talk as well

an insult to sci fi
Revisado: 03-26-22
I started this book 6 months ago and stopped after an hour because, frankly, the main character annoyed me.
I restarted it after going through some good books but quite frankly this book and setup are quite boring and basic.
I title this an insult to sci fi because good, real sci fi uses technology as a focal point to move along the story-- all aspects of sci fi here are just used as accessories rather than key pieces to a bigger picture.
further, the book itself was terrible because, as others have pointed out, it's all just too neat and frustrating. need to learn 7 alien languages? OK! need oxygen? fine. no conflicts even felt slightly engaging.
I skipped a lot after chapter 14 because it was just boring emotional talk that didn't lend to the development of these boring characters nor the development of overarching storylines. just boring stuff.
it was cringy to hear how obvious the author tried to justify the age difference by saying folks in space age more rapidly--ALSO hated the usage of 21st century artists/ shows/ sayings (like the fact that Rob watches old movies like casablanca and others the Bob) as it was another obvious author lazy attempt to be relatable instead of making rob more interesting and 3 dimensional
and Rocinante? really ? geez
save your time, just terrible.

terrible
Revisado: 03-19-22
honestly, I've followed this story for 20 yrs.
nevermind the heavy handed nature of the authors own beliefs (reminiscent of Ben bovas cringy archaic/outdated cultural nuances) but the story as a whole felt lazy and at times was quite boring.
ah well, I'm done buying anything from Card anyway. much better authors out there like Adrian Tchaikovsky who are v writing exhilarating and thought provoking literature

I wanted to like this, I really did
Revisado: 08-11-21
I was recommended this book on reddit and unfortunately it fell short of my expectations. whilst I understand this is a book of fables, too often the story and the foibles of the author make this a hard read. oftentimes seems like the author just wants to monologue vs narrate
pros:
--some funny parts
--imaginative in odd, new ways
cons:
--lack of depth in the stories or characters, which leads to it being
--boring, for the most part
--settings are intergalactic yet feudal (like, what?)
--said settings are not really elaborated on (common in sci fi) bbuuutt then author proceeds to use technical and cybernetic jargon native to the setting without explaining it. context clues only help so much
--characters whom are presumably hyper intelligent fall into the same "trap" (i.e. king: make me something, character: without knowing payment? sure!---king then tries to kill them).
honestly wouldn't recommend

A very racist and dated novel
Revisado: 04-12-21
This book and the previous 3 books are very very racist and dated. Quite frankly, surprised that they're still on audible. But, I do understand that Ben Bova is a literary icon. However, it really made it hard to listen to this book when every other word from the one dimensional vice president was red man vess and red man that. just cringe. the motif of every Ben bova book seems to be that there's a rapist in charge. it's also quite cringe. done reading his novels
