Historia
Gita Chithra, the captain of the intergalactic ship The Tempest, is used to leading her crew on simple retrieval and assistance missions. But when she receives a frantic distress call from Ri, the AI she trained from inception—making her like a daughter to Gita—she knows she’s in for something much more dangerous. Ri is trapped in the depths of Loki’s Ring, an artificial alien-made solar system, and says everyone in the vicinity has been infected and killed by a mysterious contagion. Gita and her team investigate, only to discover horrors at every turn.

Better than I expected.
Revisado: 09-01-23
Loki's Ring was a lot better than I expected based on the negative reviews. Yes it is a longer than it needed to be, and I wish it spent a little more time early on with the world building, but nearly all the characters and events really are great.
The narration was also better then the reviewers seem to say. Every one of the many characters was easily identified. The pacing was good and voice easily understandable.
I definitely understand how this story won't be for everybody, but I do feel it's worth listening to.

A nice modern take on the princess romance
Revisado: 07-30-23
This book was a very nice take on the standard girl meets princess story. There was a lot to like here and only minor personal complaints, so I really recommend this.
The narration was spot on, I think, for what I expect these characters to sound like, so that was great.

Historia
The legend of Lemuria, the Mysterious Island, and all its wonders and dangers were all too real. And it has been found. But the ancient stories of the great treasure and horrors that existed through the ice rift and beyond Odin’s Gate could never have prepared them what they discovered – monstrous creatures that lived in the sea, in the air and on land. And now Troy Strom and Anne Walsh are trapped there among them.

interesting story but completely useless mc.
Revisado: 07-06-23
spoilers ahead, sorry.
The setting and history of the island is still great. The monsters are awesome.
I really wanted to love this book. The constant introduction of characters to just kill them off gets annoying after a while though. Hilda for example had no reason to be in this book, she did nothing and then died for it.
Troy is just a bad guy to have in charge, but somehow winds up with a harem if women who just ignore the fact that his every decision nearly gets them all killed again and again.

Very satisfying "ending"
Revisado: 05-03-23
Very happy with the ending. I really recommend reading or listening to the spinoffs as well. Many of the characters and concepts in this book are better delved into in those spinoffs.

Historia
On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

A solid "okay"
Revisado: 02-09-23
The actual island stuff and viking "lore" was pretty awesome. Unfortunately, I couldn't get past how bad Troy is at just about everything and how the book likely would have been a lot better without him. There was also a serious weird nonsensical method to the actions of the bad guys. I still might read the next one only to learn more about the island, but I need a serious break before that.

Historia
Anna does boring things for terrible people because even criminals need office help and she needs a job. Working for a monster lurking beneath the surface of the world isn’t glamorous. But is it really worse than working for an oil conglomerate or an insurance company? In this economy? A sharp, witty, modern debut, Hench explores the individual cost of justice through a fascinating mix of millennial office politics, heroism measured through data science, body horror, and a profound misunderstanding of quantum mechanics.

90% Awesome 10% Falls into a weird space
Revisado: 02-15-21
Hench is amazing for the most part.
The narrator was excellent, though I suggest listening to a sample before purchase as her voice may not be for all listeners.
I sincerely hope Alex McKenna returns should there ever be a sequel.
Without spoiling much, the main character works in data entry for a supervillain and after an event realizes how much damage in time and money superheroes cause in pursuit of justice. There is a bit of blindly ignoring the damage from the villain side. While understandable from the main characters perspectives it still sits weirdly.
While I don't know if a sequel is on the horizon, I sincerely hope there is.

Historia
An Atlanta ex-cop comes to Lake Sackett, Georgia, seeking peace and quiet - but he hasn’t bargained on falling for Frankie, the cutest coroner he’s ever met. Frankie McCready talks to dead people. Not like a ghost whisperer or anything - but it seems rude to embalm them and not say hello. Fortunately, at the McCready Family Funeral Home & Bait Shop, Frankie’s eccentricities fit right in. Lake Sackett’s embalmer and county coroner, Frankie’s goth styling and passion for nerd culture mean she’s not your typical Southern girl, but the McCreadys are hardly your typical Southern family.

I liked it and really wanted to love it.
Revisado: 06-14-18
As the 4th installment to this newer series by the wonderful Molly Harper, we get another dose of Frankie and the Sheriff.
While you can read or listen to this as a stand alone novel, it really helps to read the first 3 in the series, mostly the novella also starring Frankie and the Sheriff.
While I really like the story overall and Amanda Ronconi was fantastic as always, I just feel her interactions with Sheriff Eric were lacking. Of course this is only my opinion and I'll probably listen again soon, just in case I wasn't picking up on it.
Still, this was a great story, and I can only hope for more. Especially Margo, she is such a great character in this novel.

Historia
The McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop has crickets running rampant in the store and hot sauce in the Snack Shack's ketchup bottles. But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family's business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

Great but a word of advice to those interested.
Revisado: 04-10-18
This novella is a fantastic addition to this series, but keep in mind this is meant to be the prequel to the next story which continues Frankie's' story.
If any readers/listeners are familiar with Harpers' Half Moon Hollow series, you should consider this the same as. "Big Vamp on campus" or "Fangs for the Memories".
Amanda Ronconi does a great job as always and I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job.
I greatly look forward to hearing the rest of the story in the coming months.

Homicide partners Elise Sandburg and David Gould were the Savannah PD's dream team, solving uncrackable crimes and catching killers.

A great addition to the series
Revisado: 06-01-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Truly Dead to be better than the print version?
I would. The way Ross performs the characters adds quite a lot to the overall feel of the book.
While the print version is great too, for someone from the midwest, the audio really brings a southern feel to book which just adds a great layer to the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Elise has been my favorite throughout the series and this book is no exception. Having a hero who is so aware of her flaws and the mistakes of her past makes Elise a truly great protagonist to me.
Which character – as performed by Natalie Ross – was your favorite?
Elise, Natalie Ross performing the character of Elise is the primary reason I bought all the audio versions of the series. She gives her character enough emotion to get the point across, without going overboard.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The finale. Anne Frasier has always had a way of a sucking me into the last quarter of her books like few if any others in this genre can do.
Any additional comments?
While you can purchase this as a stand alone novel, I don't recommend it.
Truly Dead really benefits from reading the previous 3 in the series.
