Historia
When a much-loved Kilmarnock police constable is found beaten to death in his home, all signs point to a burglary gone wrong. But, when a second officer is slain while walking the beat, it becomes clear that something much more sinister is afoot. Somebody is murdering cops. Harassed by an infuriating new partner and a teenage true crime podcaster, DI Heather Filson must track down a brutal killer while tensions between the police and the public explode into violence.

Another winner for JD Kirk!
Revisado: 01-10-24
I must admit that Heather has grown on me. I found her to be quite an unlikable person in the DCI Logan series. However, knowing some of her back story makes it easier to understand why she is so hard-core. The first book was good, but this one is great! Great characters, great story. I even like the narrator, and I'm picky about who I can stand to listen to. Some voices I just can't take, but Ms McCarron does a fine job in these books. Please keep them coming!

It all started harmlessly enough. An egged window, a deflated car tire, and a few garden gnomes knocked over. But then, the silent calls began–late nights and early mornings to landlines and mobiles, and numbers that no one should have access to.

Another great DCI Logan book
Revisado: 07-27-23
JD Kirk and Angus King deliver another page turner. I have grown to love these characters(I've also listened to the Hoon and now the Filson branches), and every book shows new facets of the individuals and the group. Witnessing the evolution of both the written words and the spoken ones across this series has been most enjoyable. The dark humor and casual sarcasm in the dialog have always been one of my favorite parts of these books, and this one does not disappoint. Well done, Sir, well done.

Another winner from my favorite Scottish writer!
Revisado: 06-01-23
I had a few concerns around this new series. 1. I did not like Heather from our previous meeting in a DCI Jack Logan book. 2. I ADORE the narration of Angus King and he doesn't narrate this book; and 3. I find there are only a few female narrators whose voices I like(of those I've listened to anyway).
All of my concerns fell away pretty quickly once I started listening to this latest effort by the very talented J D Kirk.
The story is wonderful and clips along at a very good pace. I got to meet some excellent new characters(Ace) and heard from a few old acquaintances( The Gozer and Shuggy Cowan). I was also pleasantly surprised to find I truly enjoyed the narration of Cathleen McCarron.
If you love a good story, strong character development, imaginative use of swear words and humor that runs a bit to the darker side, you will love all the J D Kirk novels.

London. A newspaper editor is horrifically murdered, his death quickly followed by a series of more brutal and often bizarre slayings. The police are baffled, the only clear link between the murders being a single blood-red rose left at the scene of every killing. Why? What does the rose mean? What connects the killer to each bloody corpse? Scotland Yard detective Alan Winters leads a hunt for the elusive prey.

Great new series!
Revisado: 04-02-22
Just when I thought I couldn't love JD Kirk's writing more than I do already he brings us Bob Hoon as the main character! I found this 2nd book to be just as great as the first and I certainly hope there will be a number 3. As usual the brilliant narration of Angus King helps bring the characters to life . Great read. Good on ya, Mr Kirk!

Great story & fantastic narration
Revisado: 12-23-21
This is the first JD Kirk book I have listened to. It will not be the last. Well developed characters, great dialog and an interesting story all in one book. The narrator, Angus King, does a brilliant job switching between characters and giving each their own unique sound. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this work and plan to start my next book ASAP.
