Really like this series
Revisado: 04-27-25
I’ve never been to Vermont, but I can see it in my mind so clearly with the writer’s descriptions. These books have lovable characters, and a protagonist that’s easy to like and cheer for. The animal love and responsibility element from wildlife to cats, dogs and kittens makes it all the better! Nice to see a budding romance with the handsome game warden too! Well done!

GREAT START to a promising series!!

Shakespeare, Park Ranger, Soldiers, Dogs, Kitties, Babies, Cool Grandmother, Deep woods…
What’s not to love?
Although the same concept has been done many times before this series ever hit the market. The writing is solid and I love that our broken heroine loves Shakespeare!

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Tragic Story
Revisado: 04-22-25
I liked this book because it was concise and the writer was articulate and factual. He was also from Temple, Texas. This story stood out to me because I am a native Texan and also come from a small town, near Walker County, Texas. We had our own version of a monster sexual predator who attacked women on his postal route. He was a high school football star who married the pretty cheerleader. They lived near to me and he was a model citizen, outwardly. Sometimes there are no signs!
For me, a Christian, that his church family shielded him early on made it so much worse! That law enforcement seemed to bumble earlier opportunities to stop him, even with TWO witness/ victims, speaks about the lack of technology, training, psychological knowledge, and what it’s really like to grow up in a good ole boy place and time! This is just so incredibly sad on so many levels!

Really Really Wonderful!
Revisado: 04-14-25
I am 60 years old and I just completed one of the darkest books I’ve ever come across. I NEEDED to experience something wonderful! So, I searched ‘feel good’ books in the Audible app…This youth audience book was EXACTLY what I wanted and needed! The characters were lovable and relatable! For this extraordinary little girl, her wonderful maternal aunt and uncle, a misunderstood stray dog (Wishbone), and her loyal and most wonderful best friend (Howard), wishes really do come true! Wholesome goodness all the way around!! It was funny, heartfelt, uplifting, and had a great ending (for a great new beginning.)
I would give this book TWENTY stars if I could! This was, in my own opinion, better than a trip to Disney World! Great writing and Great narration! GREAT JOB!!!

REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
I will try to unpack how I feel about this book(s). The performers were all very good. The writing itself was also above par for each individual story. The concept was indeed different and was woven well, mostly. The book as a whole was intensely uncomfortable throughout. So much so that there were many times when I wanted to stop listening but couldn’t because I just had to know what happened. I did find myself having to take MANY breaks while listening. I am never one to look as I pass a horrible traffic accident. I force myself to keep my eyes on the road in front of me and remember that the people involved in the roadside tragedy deserve privacy, compassion, and prayer. This book provokes and stirs THAT ugly side of humanity- the morbid curiosity!
The main sociopath who had destroyed so many lives in so many ways without thought just kept on sidestepping ANY kind of justice. In fact, her entire adult life of lies and selfishness had been monetarily very rewarding for her. I kept listening, waiting and hoping for this most deplorable character to finally get what was coming to her in some way. Most of the despicable people depicted in the individual stories leading up to the ending were absolutely horrible people and/or criminals and certainly made mistakes (large and small depending on the character and side story) but the real book club monster(s) lived on to destroy more lives in the future with no consequences for the crimes privy only to the listener!
This book (free to audible members) is certainly and absolutely NOT light, feel-good reading. It’s an exercise for college psychology grad students or mental health hospitals/professionals examining the very worst aspects of humanity. Many of us have been in similar heart-breaking relationship situations that were experienced by some of the characters, but never even once considered physically hurting (much less killing) the offender, cheater or home-wrecker. Margaret’s affluent life was all built on lies, manipulations, cheating, stealing and other offenses toward others! She still kept her wealth, her glamorous lifestyle, her freedom and her reputation!!! I really, REALLY, hated her more with each individual story where her actions caused such brokenness and desperation in others. The domino effects of her unconscionable behaviors and choices spilled out and onto countless other people, yet she remained almost completely unscathed. The writers all did a great job making the readers/listeners hate her guts! What a turbulent, emotional and intensely uncomfortable book experience!!!
I am so very glad the book is finally over. I HATED THE ENDING, especially after the many hours of my time, and the emotionally exhausting commitment I gave to see it through till the end all because I wanted her to FINALLY pay for all the damage she caused. I feel like I need a hot shower, a stiff drink (and I don’t even drink), a therapist, and a wholesome trip to Disney World to feel better after listening to this fictional book!

What a bloody brilliant surprise!!!
Revisado: 01-27-25
I don’t usually do romance books! I got this book because I was coming off of another mystery/romance/adventure book and this one was a suggestion. Be assured that this book is completely different, fresh (even when surrounded by antiquities), thought provoking, littered throughout with great ‘living your life in the moment’ messages of hope and enthusiasm! I am 60 years old and still managed to throughly enjoy this book! It does take a few chapters to get the flow going and for the reader to adapt to the back and forth between characters and the trippy memories, so hang in there and give it a chance. I think you will enjoy it as I did😉

This is a really sweet story and I loved the back and forth between both characters. Toss in a sweet rescue dog, a New York snow storm and lots of Jewish holiday food and you have a sweet heartfelt story.
