This is some of the best, most innovative science fiction I've experienced in a long time.
The narrator hasn't lost his touch - superb as always.
The shear scope for the imagination is cosmic, even though though the story is set on a still planet-bound Earth, and only just within the next few decades.

I quite enjoyed it. I’m not educated and don’t have anything insightful to add. But I feel like the authors made a solid case about a very interesting proposition!

It is very accessible to lay readers, not requiring any special knowledge to understand the arguments, evidence, or prose.

I wonder how it was received by academics and Christian scholars.

I guess the story might be okay. I didn’t finish it. Seemed like a satirical commentary on British / modern culture, a la Douglas Adams.
Narration was so-so. I’ve heard British narrators with greater accent versatility. But he inflected in the right places, conveyed the right emotions, especially the dry humor.

Meh.
Like Push, but less creative. It’s not sci fi, nor is it urban fantasy. It’ fits squarely into “paranormal” and the protagonist, contra his youth, is a wannabe pacifist.
Given his power set, I can think of multiple ways to defeat his main antagonist, whose motivations are similarly banal.

Contrary to other reviewers, I think the performance was just fine. She does men’s voices adequately and mixing accents isn’t a problem if the characters aren’t actually from modern Earth.

On the other hand, the novel isn’t a complete story. The two erasures at the end were entirely too convenient, almost like a deus ex machina.

That said, the plot is compelling enough to interest me in the “sequel”.

3 stars for the story (down from 4 for not resolving the plot in one novel)
4 stars for the performance (rated as 5, formally, because those who rated it down aren’t being fair)

St. Anselm meets the zombie apocalypse

I guess it was okay. I don’t like this narrator because he mispronounces words, a little like the lazy drawl of a Bible Belt local.

I wanted a science fiction. What I got was a sort of thought experiment on memes and St. Anselm with a sort of zombie apocalypse tossed casually in.

Quite a creative execution of an otherwise interesting idea, really. Just not my cup of tea.

Would you listen to Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell again? Why?

I will. Every once in a while, I like to go back over my favorites. Eventually, I'll again watch the show, then the movie, and then download the books, too. This story delivers another solid dose of Mars' spirit, the social issues she confronts, and the continuing drama of her personal life.

What aspect of Rebecca Lowman’s performance would you have changed?

I'm writing this review specifically because of Ms. Lowman's performance. I read a lot of complaints about it before downloading this book and they made me wonder if I shouldn't drop the series since they couldn't get Ms. Bell back. I'm writing this to counter those voices.

I think Ms. Lowman did fine. It wasn't stellar, but it was more than adequate. People said she was flat or emotionless. That's not true. She inflected when necessary, when certain dialogue called for it. But her non-dialogue voice is strongly melancholy. It's a style. If you don't like it, then take that into account. Me, I don't mind it so much.

Personally, I think the melancholy tone brings an important virtue to the narration, namely that I didn't have to fight her style to imagine the original cast acting out the story on screen. Also, the story of Veronica Mars isn't an upbeat one anyway. I don't know if I could have taken a perky, high-pitched cheerleader as a narrator, or even a somber, matronly librarian.

I don't know what their options were when they couldn't get Ms. Bell to return, but I think Ms. Lowman was fine and if she returns for the next book, I won't think twice about purchasing it.

Any additional comments?

I remain thrilled, if somewhat amazed, that VM hasn't jumped the shark (late third season withstanding) and I will be eagerly looking forward to the next installment.
