Historia
When the entire Soviet Union wheat crop is destroyed by a devastating string of failures, the population faces starvation. The USA is quick to offer assistance. They devise a plan to trade vital food resources with the Russians in exchange for sensitive political information. But the Politburo has other ideas: the invasion of Western Europe to commandeer the food for them... As the paths of communication breakdown the president of the United States and leaders from around the world face an appalling choice: Should they allow the loss of thousands to save the lives of many more?

One of Forsyth's best
Revisado: 07-14-24
Better than most of his other books and, in my opinion, at least as good as The day of the Jackal. The characters are actually interesting and relatable which I often find is an issue with some of his other works and the story builds and builds for the finale.

Great medieval adventure
Revisado: 04-10-23
Great medieval adventure from a great author. The main character is perhaps a bit of a weak point (feels very familiar from other books, an orphaned squire looking to rise to fame and glory) but the supporting characters and especially the sense of time and place make up for this. Looking forward to the next one.

Poorly researched
Revisado: 07-16-22
Author doesn't seem to have a very deep understanding of the times or culture of the Viking Age and it's evident to anyone who has immersed themselves in this period for some time. If you're going to write a historical fiction novel there should be some level of research behind it, this reads like fantasy inspired by reading an article about vikings...sorry to say it but it's true

Good listen
Revisado: 03-11-20
This is a good listen and pretty straight forward adventure tale. I like how the characters are distinctly different from Beibrand in his more well known series. Can’t say I think it’s Harffys best work (the plot felt like something I’d read before) but there’s potential since there seems there will be sequels and if you’ve enjoyed his other books you’ll surely enjoy this one too.

Really, really good
Revisado: 09-18-18
As far as historical fiction goes this has to be one of the best works I’ve read (or listened to) apart from Bernard Cornwell and Simon Scarrow. As someone who loves history the level of detail described in the historical notes at the end add a lot to the story. Look forward to seeing more fictional work from this author!

A darker tone from Cornwell
Revisado: 09-18-17
Another take on the English archer by Cornwell, this story is a lot grimmer and sinister than his earlier Grail Quest series. The darker tone suits the historical events covered in the novel and the narration is very good.
