Historia
For three years, Detective Jude Fontaine was kept from the outside world. Held in an underground cell, her only contact was with her sadistic captor, and reading his face was her entire existence. Learning his every line, every movement, and every flicker of thought is what kept her alive. After her experience with isolation and torture, she is left with a fierce desire for justice - and a heightened ability to interpret the body language of both the living and the dead.

I usually love mystery thrillers - but this one didn’t do it for me.
Revisado: 12-06-17
I want to start by saying I usually don’t write negative reviews but this book didn’t do it for me. I thought this book was decently hard to get through (it took a few attempts and I found myself not even caring about what happens in the end). Personally, I found it a little disjointed and I didn’t think the whole “body reader” thing was organically woven into the story, it almost felt like an afterthought to me even though it was the title, and supposed main theme. The writing wasn’t exceptional, though there were a few nice phrases and ideas. I also found the dialogue a little awkward. I don’t think I’ll read more by this author.
As for the narration, I had problems with that as well. I’ve enjoyed books narrated by Sutton-Smith before, but I found this one VERY robotic. It felt like her words were emotionless and over enunciated. Perhaps the robotic thing should be attributed more to the writing than the narration though - the lead character is pretty hard to relate to, she comes across fairly flat and unlikable to me - obviously I empathized with we hardships, but not to the actual character. It’s probably worth a try for you, you might like it better. Hope this helps.

Disturbing
Revisado: 12-01-17
Be forewarned, the subject matter in this book was really disturbing. I liked her other books much better...

The best book I ever read (/heard haha)
Revisado: 01-02-17
My ALLTIME favourite book. I’ve listened to WTNV more times than I can count and it still continues to intrigue me and coax my imagination. I wish I could move to Night Vale! Haha...but honestly, if you like all things strange and have a weird sense of humour and wonder, you have to check this book out along with all the awesome podcasts of the same name. Hope you love it as much as I do!
