All marriages are hard. Many of them fail. Brock Lewis, an evangelical businessman turned self-published author, has the answer. Follow his international bestselling book’s 12-point “Atomic Doctrine” - make eye contact with your spouse? Always! Use the bathroom in front of them? Never! - and you, too, can build a marriage that thrives.

A Wonderful Moment in Time
Revisado: 10-05-19
I love the idea of a story based on a single event. We do the same thing with a friend over coffee or at the dining table with our family whenever we have an interesting anecdote from our day.
Curtis Sittenfeld writes a wonderful short glimpse into the lives of two strangers and Diane Lane skillfully makes it come to life.
Do yourself a favor and give these two an hour of your busy life...you won't be sorry!

Amor Towles does it again!
Revisado: 10-04-19
This was one of the most engaging stories I've ever read and it is no surprise that it comes from the pen of Amor Towles.
I admit to being a great fan of the author's work..."Rules of Civility" is in the top 5 of all the books I have ever read and "Gentleman in Moscow" ranks in the top 10!l Most of the remaining 10 would be considered classics so his work is in very esteemed company!
Don't miss this little jewel of a story...wonderfully read by David Harbour...it will give you lots of food for thought!

A great idea that fell apart.
Revisado: 08-27-19
I was excited to read this book because the premice sounded so interesting. The beginning was quick moving and I was really onboard with the story until the women were deployed to France and then everything seemed to slip away.
An earlier reviewer did a very good job of discribing the elements that were disappointing.
Great idea but totally unsatisfactory in the end.

A bit of a fairy tale
Revisado: 07-26-19
It isn’t often that I have a spare hour, but I’m awfully glad that I chose to use one of them to listen to this delightful. story.
It harkens back to the man and his invisible rabbit named Harvey... a black-and-white movie from my childhood that I have always loved. Wonderful performances and a pleasure to hear...I highly recommend this audio production to anyone who wants to spend an hour with a little enchantment.

Too much time travel!
Revisado: 11-01-18
This is a wonderful story with lots of turns, twists and surprises. My issue is not with the story but with the way the author has chosen to tell the story.
Jumping back and forth in time has been a popular format in the past few years that I think is quite effective when you are reading a book... but not so endearing when you are listening to one.
Many years ago I was reading The Brothers Karamazov and my godmother (a ferocious reader) suggested that I have a sheet of paper to write all the character names and who they were and who they were related to. It helped a lot because there was a cast of thousands and the sheet helped you remember who they all were!
The issue is MUCH simpler here...but the problem still exists. I love Audible...but in this case, I would have enjoyed the story much more if I had purchased the book.

Deeply Disapointed
Revisado: 04-14-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different reader and some serious editing.
Would you ever listen to anything by Annie Barrows again?
I have read another book of hers and enjoyed it immensely.
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
An accent that was not pleasing, pitch that was too high, and inflections were down right annoying!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Truth According to Us?
I would hire a different reader. The choice of a reader is SO important...it can make or break a book for the listener. And many of the readers are terrific!
For instance, Sissy Spacek was the reader for "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I was uneasy that this much loved book would be altered...instead, her reading actually enhanced the story...it was a wonderful "listen".
Jonathan Price brought "My Cousin Rachel" to life in the most marvelous ways.
I understand that it can't always be a perfect match...but when it is...it's magical!
