Historia
Lila Kennedy has a lot on her plate. A broken marriage, two wayward daughters, a house that is falling apart, and an elderly stepfather who seems to have quietly moved in. Her career is in freefall and her love life is . . . complicated. So when her real dad—a man she has barely seen since he ran off to Hollywood thirty-five years ago—suddenly appears on her doorstep, it feels like the final straw. But it turns out even the family you thought you could never forgive might have something to teach you: about love, and what it actually means to be family.

Everydayness
Revisado: 03-26-25
The books I enjoy celebrate the common everyday life the average person lives. Ms Moyes knows how to put those stories together in the most compelling and interesting way. The characters are like us—complex and ordinary, good and not so good, interesting and mundane at times. If you’re looking for a good read…not some murder mystery or espionage thriller…try Ms Moyes’ novels.

I liked the storyline. Strong women in the family line and the way that was introduced so uniquely. It was like listening to two stories.
The narrator was too monotone for my liking.

It’s a doozy of a bad day for Beverly Diamond when she catches her husband, Larry, in a compromising position with his secretary. What’s a DC suburban wife to do with a soon-to-be ex, two young kids, and no degree or financial support in 1962? Beat the louse at his own game, that’s what.

I enjoyed the storyline of a woman realizing she could have both career and family life. The humor in the book was subtle but effective. No profanity or overt sex was also appreciated—I prefer to leave such things to the imagination! A light and enjoyable read. Good job!

I enjoyed the continuation of the story. These books are light reading but the characters are not immune to hardship. They are resilient and forgiving. They recognize their shortcomings and failings. They’re human.
The storyline is predictable but that’s okay if you want a light story to escape to from all the chaos in the world today. Thank you Ms Cossette.

Queen Esther and her little cook
Revisado: 12-29-24
This was a wonderful tale of the court of Queen Esther and the specific story of her female cook. The author weaved in a love story court intrigue, gender inequality, religious beliefs, and the preparation of delicious foods. This was a very rich story, and I hated for it to end!

At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

It’s nice to hear a plausible story to fill in the details from the true account in the Bible. It helps me to think more deeply about biblical characters and what could have happened in their lives. There are lessons to learn. I really enjoyed the imagination that went into the storytelling.

The human-ness of this story had my emotions rocking and rolling, and at so many points I didn’t know how things were going to pan out. I enjoyed the character development…there were many times I felt tears in my eyes. Great story writing. That’s why I have so many of JoJo Moyes’ books in my library! 🩷

Women serving in Vietnam
Revisado: 03-13-24
I was in middle school when the VN war started. Not much was said about it until our neighbor’s boys begun to come back in coffins. By that time, I was in high school, and most of the senior boys were drafted. My ex-husband is a Vietnam war veteran. Thankfully, I believe he’s okay with his physical health. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the women who served in the military during this time. They are unsung hero’s, and everyone should read this book. It should be mandatory reading for high schoolers because it’s history, albeit fictional, it can be taught alongside other history they need to know! Thank you, Kristin Hannah!
