Historia
Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time.

I could not stop listening to this book. The story and characters are so well done, and the second person POV is spot on. Santino Fontana does an exceptional job as the performer and really brings Joe (and all the other characters) to life. I enjoyed how Joe’s inner monologue made the story equal parts twisted, funny, and overall fascinating. Highly recommend this one!

I kind of regret listening to this at work because I laughed out loud so many times that I had to keep pausing it so I could regain my composure. One of the most funny and entertaining listens I’ve had in a while!

Beautiful and moving talks from extraordinary women. Sophia Bush makes a great “host” to tie all of the episodes together. You can tell how passionate and authentic each of the speakers are, and I came away with lessons I will use in everyday life.

Historia
Emma Saylor doesn’t remember a lot about her mother, who died when Emma was 12. But she does remember the stories her mom told her about the big lake that went on forever, with cold, clear water and mossy trees at the edges. Now, it’s just Emma and her dad, and life is good, if a little predictable...until Emma is unexpectedly sent to spend the summer with her mother’s family, whom she hasn’t seen since she was a little girl.

Bound to be a Sarah Dessen classic
Revisado: 07-11-19
This story has all the components of a great YA summer novel and goes along with the formula for Dessen’s other novels, so fans are sure to enjoy it.
The story felt a little more “slice of life” than Dessen’s other novels, in terms of the characters’ dialogue and actions. But this wasn’t a bad thing, as it captured the lake-trip setting well. Listening to the story made me feel nostalgic, as if I was remembering the lake myself. The narrator was also perfect for this story and really captured the voice of the protagonist. Definitely recommend as an effortlessly engaging YA summer read!

Not my favorite Dessen novel, but worth the read, as always
Revisado: 06-05-19
Let me start by saying I’ve loved Sarah Dessen’s books since I was a teen, and this one doesn’t stray far from her typical formula. There’s a reason she’s one of the top authors in YA.
I will say that I found the protagonist in this one so. frustratingly. passive. I was desperate for her to stand up for herself and to be the catalyst for change in her life, rather than letting others around her determine her course in the story. (Though I know some of her passiveness was intended for her character, it still drove me nuts!)
Also, the narrator killed me. Her inflections and the high tilt of her voice at the end of sentences made the protagonist sound “surprised” by everything. That was not a style fit for a protagonist who was very introspective and observational, as it made her seem confused by almost all of her internal thoughts.
I will say that this is a novel I could easily (and would be happy to) see turned into a film, or even a mini series. Thanks to Dessen’s effortlessly clean but descriptive writing style, I could see all of the characters clearly in my head while listening, and I know they would shine even brighter onscreen.

Needs so much work
Revisado: 04-17-19
I can see why the narrator goes by “Anonymous.” He’s absolutely terrible. Sounds so robotic—not even monotone, just robotic, like Alexa but so much worse. He makes weird inflections and pauses at awkward times, which distracts from the material.
The material has some good points, but is not well written. It sounds like a friend giving you advice, not like a credible source giving you real, proven strategies. The writing is elementary and sounds like a high schooler’s class report on depression. If you/your loved one is suffering from depression, I would take whatever helpful tips you can get from this, but would 100% recommend you get real help elsewhere. Look into organizations like NAMI or MHA.
