Superb Biography
Revisado: 10-14-19
Just as he did for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jean Edward Smith makes Dwight David Eisenhower a very human, very flawed but very great man as he describes his transformation.

Historia
The Passage of Power follows Lyndon Johnson through both the most frustrating and the most triumphant periods of his career - 1958 to 1964. It is a time that would see him trade the extraordinary power he had created for himself as Senate Majority Leader for what became the wretched powerlessness of a Vice President in an administration that disdained and distrusted him. Yet it was, as well, the time in which the presidency, the goal he had always pursued, would be thrust upon him in the moment it took an assassin’s bullet to reach its mark.

A Spellbinding Story of Love and Loss
Revisado: 12-03-18
It was not hard to guess that the author of this story is a psychiatrist. The emotions run deep. The characters are real.I enjoyed the book immensely and the narration was excellent. I recommend it to anyone who
wants a true picture of the horrors and dislocation that war brings.

What a Great 8 Years
Revisado: 11-29-18
As I listened to Michelle Obama tell me her story, I was able, if only for a brief time, to go back to the days when our country led the world in decency and our president understood that his job was to bring our country together and to lead the free world. I keep waiting for the day when someone will say to our current president, "Have you no sense of decency?" Michelle points out that the portraits of her and her husband now are found at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Millions of children will look at them and say if they can be there, why not me?

Historia
They stand at the apex of the great age of songwriting, the creators of the classic Broadway musicals Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, whose songs have never lost their popularity or emotional power. Even before they joined forces, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II had written dozens of Broadway shows, but together they pioneered a new art form: the serious musical play.

The Sweetest Songs
Revisado: 11-14-18
I listened to this book and when I finished it, the first thing I did was listen to it again. The story of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein is so well told and so filled with memorable stories that I just had to play it again. The pair wrote over 900 songs and 43 Broadway musicals, some of the greatest ever written for their time and today. The author is the reader and although he does not sing any of their songs, he speaks the poetry of Oscar Hammerstein. If you love Broadway, you'll love this book.

Historia
During a 68-year career, conductor Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957) was famed for his fierce dedication, photographic memory, explosive temper, and impassioned performances. At various times he dominated La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the NBC Symphony, and the Bayreuth, Salzburg, and Lucerne festivals. His reforms influenced generations of musicians, and his opposition to Nazism and fascism made him a model for artists of conscience.

Toscanini by Harvey Sachs, a profound music lesson
Revisado: 03-02-18
From Verdi to Puccini, most of the great singers and most of the great musicians composers and conductors of the 20th century, Toscanini knew them all. And most of them considered him the greatest conductor of the 20th century. This book clearly verifies that and also shows that he was one of the great humanitarians of the 20th century. the book is beautifully written and beautifully recorded. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about opera, classical music and how to be a great human being.

On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Wilbur and Orville Wright's Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. The Age of Flight had begun. How did they do it? And why?

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.
