Historia
In 2008, nine mountaineers failed to return from a winter backpacking trip in the New Mexico mountains. At their final campsite, searchers found a bizarre scene: something had appeared at the door of their tent so terrifying that it impelled them to slash their way out and flee barefoot to certain death in a blizzard. Despite a diligent search, only six bodies were found, two violently crushed and inexplicably missing their eyes. The case, given the code name “Dead Mountain” by the FBI, was never solved. Now, two more bodies from the lost expedition are unexpectedly discovered in a cave.

Preston and Child do it again
Revisado: 09-29-23
These two do a great job of taking historical mysteries and putting their own spin on them. They do not disappoint in this one. The twists and turns and use of great familiar characters is masterful. While all their novels stand on their own, the way they interweave is excellent.

March 15th, Earth Year 2290. The day the aliens returned. The memories are still fresh. Of colonies burning. Of millions dying in agony. Fifty years later, we’ve built up our strength. Using a wormhole, we colonized both sides of the galaxy. It was the worst mistake we could have made. Our enemy has returned and the wormhole has collapsed. Commander Thatcher finds himself on the wrong side of the divide. Separated from his pregnant wife by countless light years. He’s just been given command of a light armored cruiser. If you take Honor Harrington and remove all physics and stick that over Starship Troopers, you get this. It's fun, but nothing Earth shattering.

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

A ton of fun

Wil and Ron do this story justice. Not all of these originals are winners, but this one is definitely worth a listen.

Historia
This two-story compiliation, read by Stefan Rudnicki, offers two stories from David Drake's popular Hammer's Slammers series. In At Any Price, Col. Alois Hammer's indomitable Slammers are called in to support human colonists against a native uprising in this novel-length adventure. But even though the natives' off-world weapons are no match for the Slammers, their ability to teleport gives them a frightening advantage! In Rolling Hot, the battle-crazed troop of recruits and vets, led by Captain Ranson, must cover 300 miles of hostile enemy territory.

Where does At Any Price & Rolling Hot rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Rudnicki is brilliant. I was introduced to him in a series by Greg Benford. He is amazingly talented. This book is definitely in my top 10.
What did you like best about this story?
Drake is wonderful at creating complete characters in a war zone. They are all quite complete and sympathetic characters.
Which scene was your favorite?
It was the final scene. I won't spoil it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes

Interesting take on this series
Revisado: 03-23-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Wild Cards III: Jokers Wild to be better than the print version?
I would consider them to be equal
Who was your favorite character and why?
Hiram Worchester. He enjoys life and enjoys everyone else enjoying life. He's a fun character
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Most were excellent. Wraith's narrator is a bit vanilla, but the rest are great.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Spectre's transformation throughout the book

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.
