The wit and wisdom of a economist and just an extremely bright, well-rounded person now I'm his 90's is priceless.

Historia
In a book that is both groundbreaking and accessible, Daniel C. Dennett, whom Chet Raymo of The Boston Globe calls "one of the most provocative thinkers on the planet", focuses his unerringly logical mind on the theory of natural selection, showing how Darwin's great idea transforms and illuminates our traditional view of humanity's place in the universe. Dennett vividly describes the theory itself and then extends Darwin's vision with impeccable arguments to their often surprising conclusions, challenging the views of some of the most famous scientists of our day.

Darwinism as a philosophy
Revisado: 01-21-23
It is difficult to listen to an author whose mental and verbal capacity so greatly outpaced my own. With time taken to listen, reflect, look up meanings of words, and listen again, I feel I have gained insight and vocabulary.
The narrator was excellent. The footnoting would have been easier to deal with had I chosen a written text.

Historia
Jared Kushner was one of the most consequential presidential advisers in modern history. For the first time, he recounts what happened behind closed doors during the Trump presidency. Few White House advisors have had such an expansive portfolio or constant access to the president. From his office next to Trump, senior adviser Jared Kushner operated quietly behind the scenes, preferring to leave the turf wars and television sparring to others.

History will remember well
Revisado: 12-28-22
A detailed review and insight into the workings of the Trump administration. Jared must have kept meticulous day by day notes to be able to write this book. I am happy and grateful for this effort and for all of his service. I suspect we will hear much more from this very talented and industrious leader. Perhaps our next first Jewish President!
History will be very kind to President Donald Trump.

Historia
A big-shouldered, big-trouble thriller set in mobbed-up 1920s Chicago - a city where some people knew too much and where everyone should have known better - by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of The Untouchables and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Glengarry Glen Ross. Mike Hodge - veteran of the Great War, big shot of the Chicago Tribune, medium fry - probably shouldn't have fallen in love with Annie Walsh. Then again, maybe the man who killed Annie Walsh should have known better than to trifle with Mike Hodge.

Historia
William Barr’s first tenure as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush was largely the result of chance, while his second tenure under President Donald Trump a deliberate and difficult choice. In this candid memoir, Barr takes listeners behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103 and Iran Contra. Thirty years later, Barr faced an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.

One chapter at a time.
Revisado: 05-12-22
It should be read or listened to one chapter at a time. Barr is a methodical and rational thinker extraordinaire. He was a great AG and the book is a good historical glimpse into all that entails. It also is an interesting look into how he views and interacts with Trump. If one gets bogged down just listen to the last 5 minutes to renew your interest.

Historia
In the 21st century, humanity is reaching new heights of scientific understanding - and at the same time appears to be losing its mind. How can a species that developed vaccines for COVID-19 in less than a year produce so much fake news, medical quackery, and conspiracy theorizing? Pinker rejects the cynical cliché that humans are an irrational species - cavemen out of time saddled with biases, fallacies, and illusions.

Powerful
Revisado: 12-07-21
I struggled with portions and reflected that the author, being human, suffers from some of the same human irrationalities he is pointing out. He seems to believe many of the hoaxes perpetuated about Trump and holds him in disdain. He points out the futility of make a rational statement political and then proceeds to do just that very thing.
Still and very well thought out and presented thesis.

Historia
Innovation is the main event of the modern age, the reason we experience both dramatic improvements in our living standards and unsettling changes in our society. Forget short-term symptoms like Donald Trump and Brexit, it is innovation itself that explains them and that will itself shape the 21st century for good and ill. Yet innovation remains a mysterious process, poorly understood by policy makers and businessmen, hard to summon into existence to order, yet inevitable and inexorable when it does happen.
