Historia
The right idea, invoked at the right time, can change our lives. Drawing from her long studies of happiness, and also from the challenges she’s faced herself, writer Gretchen Rubin has discovered the “Secrets of Adulthood” that can help us manage the complexities of life. To convey her conclusions, she turned to the aphorism—the ancient literary discipline that demands that a writer convey a large truth in a few words.

Big Truth, Compact Packaging!
Revisado: 04-24-25
Gretchen brings wisdom, charm, and occasional laugh out loud moments in this brief audiobook.
Some reviewers have expressed disappointment with the length of the production. They have it all wrong! The whole point of aphorisms is to be short and memorable.
This book is loaded with concise value. If you benefit from a handful of these sayings, you’ll be miles ahead. Thanks Gretchen & team!

Historia
During the first fifty years of the twentieth century, the United States saw two world wars, a devastating economic depression, and more social, political, and economic changes than in any other five-decade period before. Frederick Lewis Allen, former editor of Harper's Magazine, recounts these years—spanning World War I, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression, World War II, and the early Cold War—in vivid detail, from the fashions and customs of the times to major events that changed the course of history.

I discovered Frederick Lewis, Alan when Morgan Housel referenced him and have now read most of his books. Recommended for anyone who enjoys popular history of the United States.

Historia
Critical theory and its expression in fields such as critical race theory, critical pedagogy, and queer theory are having a profound impact on our culture. Contemporary critical theory's ideas about race, class, gender, identity, and justice have dramatically shaped how people think, act, and view one another—in Christian and secular spheres alike. In Critical Dilemma, authors Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer illuminate the origins and influences of contemporary critical theory, considering it in the light of clear reason and biblical orthodoxy.

Essential reading, thoughtful and loving presentation
Revisado: 05-31-24
Big thanks to Shenvi & Sawyer for this careful take on various critical theories, with a challenging call to orthodox Christians to greater faith and repentance as we interact within the church, and with our culture. No straw men here. Just primary sources, logic, and scripture, including clear presentation of law and gospel throughout. Five stars.

Will Patton made Holly; he’s gone. Maybe he read the first few chapters and said, No thanks.
Revisado: 09-09-23
The worst problem with this book is the loss of Will Patton as Holly’s Constant Narrator.
The second worst problem is that this mystery / thriller offers no apolitical space to enjoy the characters and the story.
One bright spot: I am a 50-book+ King reader, recommender, and book-gifter. I never would have had all that enjoyment and great writing if this had been the first SK title I read!
If Holly, and this narrator, are the future of King books and this may be my last. Thank goodness for a deep, evergreen catalog to read and re-read with enjoyment.
One star. Breaks my little reader’s heart.

Historia
Tim Kennedy has a problem; he only feels alive right before he’s about to die. Kennedy, a Green Beret, decorated Army sniper, and UFC headliner, has tackled a bull with his bare hands, jumped out of airplanes, dove to the depths of the ocean, and traveled the world hunting poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban. But he’s also the same man who got kicked out of the police department, fire department, and as an EMT, before getting two women pregnant four days apart, and finally, been beaten up by his Special Forces colleagues.

Winners Fail More Often + Great story + read by Tim Kennedy the author
Revisado: 07-08-22
I was scarcely two hours into the audiobook before I bought three additional copies to give away to friends. So, fair warning: once you get started on this story, you may have to buy it a few more times for other people you know!
Tim’s story, and the stories of the people around him, are straight as an SF sniper’s bullet, and straight from the heart. From Tim’s childhood, to the events that shape his early adulthood, to his enlistment, and all his service to our beloved nation abroad, the book is almost impossible to put down or stop listening to. In fact, when it wasn’t convenient to listen to my Audible, I found myself cracking the copies I bought as gifts to keep pressing forward with this story.
This book does what the best stories do: immerses the reader in the life of the protagonist, and when it’s all over, leaves you reflecting on your own life through the lens of what you just read, considering what you learned, and how to be a better man. And sorry the story had to end.
The story also affirms Dweck’s Mindset and other “success” stories: success does not come from an unbroken string of easy wins. In fact, most people who win big, have failed more often, have failed bigger, and have just kept forging ahead. Beware the life of unbroken ease and easy wins!
Thank you Tim and Nick for sharing your story here. We wish you all the best with every future endeavor, and thank you with all our heart, for your service to our nation.
