Heartbreaking story told beautifully. With Steve Earle’s beautiful ballads to back it up. Great screenplay. Thank you Audible Studios!

Liked this one much more than I thought. Ken Albala is not only a great story-teller, he even sings some of his stories. The food-science parts were quite interesting, as was the sociology, historical "table setting", even the tax angles. Ken has written 25 other books, many about food. We probably check them out as well. Bravo! (Can't believe this one was free!)

Love Lagunitas beers, love Petaluma, and as a recent transplant to Chicago, absolutely loved the epilogue about the ballsy move to Douglas Park. My new hero.

Loved this book from start to finish. "History" is being created in real time. This is a story that really matters. Inspiring.

Overall a really good book, however it cannot be escaped really it is a book about analyzing data which sometimes can get Dell. Despite that I still recommend at least perusing it.

The scary part is that what happens in this story is quite plausible, and has already made our financial markets unstable and ungovernable. The "smartest guys in the room" since the 1990's became Wall Street "quants" who wrote the algorithms that make scads of money getting in and out of stocks in seconds or less, while hedging their downside. Being right 55% of the time is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The mental illness plot twist made the book even more difficult to put down. Christian Rodska's narration was really good, including the accents and pace. The setting in Geneva sounds lovely. Great book, from beginning to end.

Contrarian But Facual; A Thought Provoking Read

Working in the renewable energy field, I had a lot of questions on the "math of energy", and how to separate the fact from legend. I enjoyed this book from start to finish, although I had to go to the hard-copy occasionally when the facts & figures got to dense to absorb. The conclusion that "renewable energy" is not energy dense enough to replace coal/gas/oil, and that our future is is gas & nuclear makes mathematical sense, but left me feeling uneasy, with nuclear's cost & proliferation downside.Nothing comes without costs, I guess.

My Very Favorite Audible Book

Total

I have read and listened to a lot of Deepak Chopra books, and this is my favorite. He narrates it well (and he doesn't read all of his Audible offerings), and his illustrative stories make sense. Having listened to it many times since last years purchase, I never get tired of this one. Profound, and useful.

Set in the Sudan in the 1880s, this book contains all of the elements that make Wilbur Smith's books unforgetable - adventure, exotic settings, and personal courage. Audible needs to pick up Smith's Birds of Prey, the next book in this series.
