Engaging and enlightening.

Professor Vandiver is an excellent lecturer. I've listened to most (if not all) of her "The Great Courses" lectures. She reminds me of my Latin teacher from college. Highly recommended.

Historia
Hannah Arendt, one of the most gifted and provocative voices of her era, was a polarizing cultural theorist - extolled by her peers as a visionary and denounced by others as a fraud. Born in Prussia to assimilated Jewish parents, she escaped from Hitler's Germany in 1933 and became best known for her critique of the world's response to the evils of World War II.

An inspiration for thoughtfulness
Revisado: 10-05-16
A wonderful look at the life and mind of an independent thinker, of which we have too few in our time.

Historia
Paul Johnson, the most celebrated popular historian of our time, takes a scalpel to Stalin, whom he considers "one of the outstanding monsters of history." Johnson sets forth the essence of Stalin’s life, character, and career. "It has been a hateful task, which has caused me much pain and disgust," he writes with characteristic candor. "But it has been a duty I have performed not without a certain grim satisfaction."

Great intro to an awful person
Revisado: 10-04-16
A grim reminder that individual choices matter. Stalin didn't have to be heinous, sadistic, mass murderer...but he was.

China. Korea. Japan. Southeast Asia. How did Eastern civilization develop? What do we know about the history, politics, governments, art, science, and technology of these countries? And how does the story of Eastern civilization play out in today's world of business, politics, and international exchange?

How to Be a Conservative

Historia
What does it mean to be a conservative in an age so sceptical of conservatism? How can we live in the presence of our 'canonized forefathers' at a time when their cultural, religious and political bequest is so routinely rejected? With soft left-liberalism as the dominant force in Western politics, what can conservatives now contribute to public debate that will not be dismissed as pure nostalgia?

Conservatism is more than economic theory
Revisado: 06-23-16
Very thought provoking about the essence of conservative thought and action. Scruton goes beyond economic and political theory to examine the cultural aspects of conservatism.
