Felt like an insider!
Revisado: 09-10-23
Loved the book! I felt like an insider with all of the author speak and had some guilt during the Reader Rant forum as I could relate to the reader perspectives. Loved the smart dialog and depiction of loyalty in the characters. Initially I was a little surprised with what seemed like screeching from different narrators. I soon understood it was depiction of excitable dialog and assumed ALL CAPS may have been involved if I were actually reading instead of listening. This one was entertaining and worth the time!

Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends. Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he's being condescending (which is all the time).

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-25-22
I love love love Penny Reid and will continue to read EVERYTHING she writes, but this one was disappointing. I loved Winnie’s character and the storyline elements relative to social media and STEM and that females can bale MANY things. There were strange elements in the storyline of the blooming relationship that were a bit mThe male narrator was a detractor.

Historia
As children, Sam and Elli were two halves of a perfect whole: gorgeous identical twins whose parents sometimes couldn’t even tell them apart. They fell asleep to the sound of each other’s breath at night, holding hands in the dark. And once Hollywood discovered them, they became B-list child TV stars, often inhabiting the same role. But as adults, their lives have splintered. After leaving acting, Elli reinvented herself as the perfect homemaker: married to a real estate lawyer, living in a house just blocks from the beach.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Perfection!!!
Revisado: 05-09-22
Another amazing novel by Emily Henry brilliantly performed by Julia Whelan. Henry always takes her reader on a journey through time and emotion as her characters evolve before our every eyes, on ears as the case may be. I love her sarcastic whit! Especially when perfectly delivered by Whelan. Cannot wait for the next read!

Grace costs you nothing!
Revisado: 05-05-22
I love this author and this book did not let me down. Excellent read. The phrase “Grace costs you nothing” is my favorite quote from the book. Julia Whelan is my favorite narrator but the male narrator was unmatched to her performance. His narration of female characters was overly effeminate and gave the impression they were whiny. I found this distracting. His narration of make characters was great though. I would have preferred Whelan’s narration of all characters.

Former child actor Fiona St. James dropped out of the spotlight after a spectacularly public crash and burn. The tabloids called her crazy and self-destructive and said she’d lost her mind. Now in her late twenties, Fiona believes her humiliating past is firmly behind her. She’s finally regained a modicum of privacy, and she won’t let anything—or anyone—mess it up.

Loooooved!
Revisado: 05-03-22
I loved this book! I wish it were longer. The dry sarcastic wit of Fiona was body armor for the wounded person she was. I loved that Sam saw through the camouflage and chose the alternate path of authenticity even when he didn’t want to. I was so impressed with Julia Whalen’s handling of the dialog to the point of forgetting she was a single narrator as I listened to two distinct voices engage in rapid fire banter. Hoping for s sequel to further explore Erin’s role and the aftermath of her work.

Resiliency in the American Spirit
Revisado: 02-09-21
This book served as a reminder that there is resiliency in the American Spirit that is unlike any other country. Although it is set on a time period of 80 to 100 years ago, it addresses thoughts and ideals that are timeless an still ongoing in our world today. This book made me think, but it also made me feel.

Revisado: 01-24-21
I love Julia Whelan! She’s my favorite narrator and has been fo awhile. But her writing! Oh my goodness!! So good. Or as a Brit would describe it by using a typical negative word in a positive context- terribly awesome! I loved the characters, the setting! The cultural juxtapositions! !she made it all look and SOUND so effortless. I read it in a single sitting. Cannot wait for the next book by my favorite narrator.❣️

Historia
Martin Reed is thoroughly average in every way. So how has he wound up with such a pathetic existence? Martin has no friends, no lovers, and no respect. Working as a senior accountant at Southern Toilet Supply and still living with his nagging mother, his sole source of excitement is the crime novels he cherishes. So immersed is Martin in these escapes that he fails to notice the crimes going on all around him.

The story was intriguing and humorous, but it was Wayne's narration that really brought Martin to life. In the end, with all of his flaws, I liked Martin and even understood his mothers flawed logic.

Nice!
Revisado: 07-11-15
Although the content was gruesome the storyline was excellent. Very fast paced and sprinkled with sarcastic humor, which is expected in a Karin Slaughter novel. The narration was great. I particularly enjoyed Mr. Slades performance and felt it provided a good infusion of quiet sincerity in contrast to Ms. Woodward*s relaying of the balance of the story. Both narrators did an excellent job portraying the characters. Accents were spot on.
