Historia
Distinguished British man of letters J. R. Ackerley hardly thought himself a dog lover when, well into middle age, he came into possession of a German shepherd named Tulip. To his surprise, she turned out to be the love of his life, the “ideal friend” he had been seeking in vain for years. My Dog Tulip is a bittersweet retrospective account of their 16-year companionship, as well as a profound and subtle meditation on the strangeness that lies at the heart of all relationships.

Very Interesting POV from an Owner
Revisado: 02-14-19
I liked the story. The speaker was good. But it is in a British accent. It was moving and in a way,. It humanizes the animal, while understanding its natural state. A very good book for English majors. There is a lot to analyze.

Historia
Marin hasn't spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she's tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that's been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart.

The Speaker is Good
Revisado: 06-10-18
I think the speaker was good; however, I was not a huge fan of the story. It is pretty boring.

Historia
Jade believes she must get out of her neighborhood if she's ever going to succeed. Her mother says she has to take every opportunity. She has. She accepted a scholarship to a mostly-white private school and even Saturday morning test prep opportunities. But some opportunities feel more demeaning than helpful. Like an invitation to join Women to Women, a mentorship program for "at-risk" girls. Except really, it's for black girls. From "bad" neighborhoods. But maybe there are some things Jade could show these successful women about the real world and finding ways to make a real difference.

A Very Soothing Voice
Revisado: 06-03-18
I really liked this book. It is has so much to analyze; especially when it comes to the topic of intersectionality involving privileges and oppressions. The speaker's voice fit the part of the main character. It was a very good book.
