Historia
There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics.

meh...
Revisado: 03-18-22
Boring. Just yammering, which is not the narrator's fault, since she's only reading the words. I get the impression that the writer followed a story layout.

Fabulous!
Revisado: 11-07-21
What a terrific fairy tale! Sun, Moon, Earth, godlings, and stars all living beings. A human female is needed to give birth to new stars, which kills the mother. But what if a mother survives?
I can't wait until the next book is out in March.

great story, poor narration
Revisado: 08-14-20
The narrator sounds like Jeff Bridge's Starman. Clipped, unnatural. He sounded as though he were reading a children's story to a small child.

This was my first time reading this author. character development was well done, some details of the story were hard to listen to due to a bit too detailed. I will read her again.

It's ok
Revisado: 10-04-19
Good premise, but poorly written. He keeps telling the reader things that should have been evident within the scene. We know the lead has gifts, he doesn't need to keep reminding us. He's made her too perfect; higher mental abilities, rich, best detective in the country. She has no hurdles to overcome, which would develop the character.
We know another character is a professor, there's no need to include his university along with his position just to tell us what he said.
The fact that this hit the NYT bestsellers only says people bought into the storyline; it doesn't say how many took the book to a second hand store after buying it.
This book needs serious editing.

A best seller?
Revisado: 09-25-19
I have no idea how this book became a best seller. He tells the reader what's going on prior to the action, instead of just telling the story. Have readers really become so dumbed-down that the can no longer think for themselves?

Poor characters
Revisado: 03-18-19
I don't care how many books this guy sells, his knowledge of women, particularly those who are supposedly strong, is poor. Even the lead, Jeannie, a university professor, has been written as submissive, while the men are nasty and clearly entitled to their place at the top of the tree.

It's ok
Revisado: 03-12-18
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It's mostly exposition. Telling the story to the reader, instead of allowing the characters to tell the story.
What aspect of Scott Brick’s performance would you have changed?
I would get him a dictionary so he could learn how to pronounce 'sietch'.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I'd wait for the DVD. I don't see well enough for theaters.
