Author is inaccurate,
Revisado: 01-23-25
This could be a great story if thr author was more knowledgeable. Tactical folks don't leave on a mission without their rifles and just a handgun. And if they get caught in that situation, they pick up the enemies weapons. Such silly mistakes kept coming up in the story...very annoying. To much unnecessary idle dialog..."I ghosted you all those years ago because yadi-yada"..." we can't let the children know what is going on because they will be scared or ruined for life" as we are running away from people who shot at us and kidnapped one of us...what?". If it wasn't for the excellent narration I would have stopped listening. I love prepper stories because I usually learn something, but so far the civilian prepper is a dud, an almost beta-male loser with good intentions. Hopefully the action part of the story picks up, but I'm not hopeful for this writer.

Obnoxious Main Character, excellent Narration
Revisado: 10-17-24
Main character is a selfish obnoxious jerk, but narrator carries the day and makes the story exciting. Plot is not super clever, but still makes for a good listen.

Horrible narration, awkward voice. storyline infantile
Revisado: 09-04-24
I couldnt finish listening to this book. The narators voice irritated me and the characters were so stupid or immature in their reaction to a crisis it made everything else in the story seem unrealistic. This was my first audio book i couldnt finish, ive been lucky with dozens and dozens of others. No, i couldn't waste my time with this one with so many great stories out there waiting for me.

Historia
Sure to rank as one of the greatest aviation memoirs ever written, Viper Pilot is an Air Force legend's thrilling eyewitness account of modern air warfare. From 1986 to 2006, Lt. Col. Dan Hampton was a leading member of the Wild Weasels, the elite Air Force fighter squadrons whose mission is recognized as the most dangerous job in modern air combat. Weasels are the first planes sent into a war zone, flying deep behind enemy lines purposely seeking to draw fire from surface-to-air missiles and artillery. They must skillfully evade being shot down - and then return to destroy the threats, thereby making the skies safe for everyone else to follow.

So this it what it's like
Revisado: 05-17-24
A refreshing historical glimpse of what it is like in the real fighter pilot world. Like any kid who was fascinated with airplanes, the dream of being a fighter pilot never left my me. This account is a fun read of what it takes to be such a pilot and a true view of what it actually is. It is not a narcissistic view of a ace, but a true to life account of what I had always dreamed of, and to say I was surprised is truly an understatement. I thank this author for sharing his experience. I will search for more readings of this type!

Historia
In 1942, America's deadliest fighter pilot, or "ace of aces" - the legendary Eddie Rickenbacker - offered a bottle of bourbon to the first US fighter pilot to break his record of 26 enemy planes shot down. Seizing on the challenge to motivate his men, General George Kenney promoted what they would come to call the "race of aces" as a way of boosting the spirits of his war-weary command.

WW2 Veterans will always be my heros
Revisado: 02-02-24
This is a real story of real heros. Lots of exicting stories of these aces. But the story line started becoming repetitive the last half of the book, I started to loose interest. I could have skipped over the last fourth of the story and gone to the epilog and walkednaway with the same enjoyment and appreciation of these men.

Historia
In May 1962, Naval Chief Petty Officer Bryant Arbuckle flew to Saigon to establish a new armed forces radio station. Next to follow were his wife and three boys, Leslie among them. Saigon Kids is the candid, recondite slice of 14-year-old military brat Les Arbuckle's experience at the American Community School during the critical months of the Vietnam War when events would, quite literally, ignite in downtown Saigon.

Story of an Obnoxious Kid
Revisado: 01-26-23
The pluses of the story is an inside view of pre-wartime Saigon by an outsider. The downside is that it was a story lived by the child you would never want, and of a person we never would want to be. The author never made an attempt to make a native friend or really get to know the real Vietnam culture or language. If he did, it wasn't something he appreciated because it was never told in the story. When the story was over there wasn't much to admire of the main characters, and I wasn't surprised that nothing much came of them.

Vietnam became the Western world’s most divisive modern conflict, precipitating a battlefield humiliation for France in 1954, then a vastly greater one for the US in 1975. Max Hastings has spent the past three years interviewing scores of participants on both sides, as well as researching a multitude of American and Vietnamese documents and memoirs, to create an epic narrative of an epic struggle. Here are the vivid realities of strife amid jungle and paddies that killed two million people.

Many facts were recited, but the story flow was lost. Yes, I learned a lot of Vietnam war history, but I am unsure sure how biased my takeaways are because I cannot verify the quoted conclusions. I wished a map of some sort was provided, the geographical points were lost on me.

Enjoyed it
Revisado: 07-17-22
Good story, lots of action, liked the prepper message, heavy on the religious aspect. As far as the religious area, I've always felt that Bible versus are in another language, people quoting them are too free to interpret as they feel fit. So it was awkward accepting the relationship of the storyline and the cryptic biblical aguage.
