It’s probably just me but I feel like I’ve missed something. There was so much going on in this novella that felt like it came out of nowhere. Where in the timeline are we? How much of a time jump is this for book 3?

The attempt to be a contemporary romance version of a regency romance was not quite right. The author didn’t seem to have a good grasp of the original motivations of the characters. The moral comment at the end seemed condescending and like it was trying to get you to feel guilty for not falling for “character development”. I never minded Lydia but Wickham is supposed to be hated. I didn’t care much for a redemption ark for him. I’d have rather her have found a true love with someone else than the strange plot twist. Just seemed like every action was out of character for all parties and wasn’t real character growth, just changing who they are to have a rainbows and sunshine ending. Then the plot twist of the other military couple seemed over dramatic but also brushed under the rug like it was nothing.

So woke it’s annoying

I couldn’t even finish it. The story in itself is cute. Very hallmark but it hallmark was CNN. I quit at the part where they were discussing how the term “blind date” was ableist. That was not the only overly analyzed, woke topic discussed. It felt like half the book was just virtue signaling. Like we get it he’s a nice guy, with the most rebellious thing he’s ever done being dying a strip of hair blue while in adulthood. The guy is so boring and the girl is cliché. The best character was the older lady from the bus.
