Historia
When eight-year-old Nora arrives at the Park Ridge School for Girls in 1932, she is sure there’s been some mistake. She can’t imagine why she and her little sister, Patsy, were torn from their mother only to be subjected to the cruel whims of the house matron, Mrs. Morris. When their mother fails to rescue them week after week—and Mrs. Morris drops hints that their mother may be a “fallen woman”—Nora begins to doubt they will ever see her again.

Good story.
Revisado: 12-30-24
The narrator was so annoying. Like listening to my grandmother trying to change her voice for 4 different people and not one of them worked. By far the hardest narration I have listened to. Was about to give up but managed to stay as the story line improved. Unfortunately not the narrator.

Honey, I just want you to have everything you ever wanted. That’s what Jacy’s mom always told her. And Jacy felt like she finally did. Tried this book because of ties to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Had a few references in the book but not really a true description of that area. Story line was typical of a not very thrilling thriller. Very difficult to get through this one.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Enjoyed the story. The female narrator was very hard to under and had a very soft voice. Then the male narrator would jump in and I felt like I needed to turn the volume down as his voice came in loud and thankful, clear,

A well written historical fiction book. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a good book. Story flows well and liked that there were 3 different readers for the 3 main characters, each telling their own part of the story.

Narrators mismatched
Revisado: 02-22-20
I really enjoyed the story line. Had a problem with the two different narrators. One voice was soothing and read at reasonable pace. The second narrator, Alice, would take over for the next chapter and read like she was on steroids. Was hard going back and forth between the two. One soothing and the other just jolting.

Nice enjoyable story line. Better audio book. Reading it might have been tough as there were places where it was definitely slow going. Had a little difficulty at first with narrators delivery. Seemed to mumble but got past that after first hour. Worth a listen.

Really tough listen.
Revisado: 06-09-19
If I read the book I would have quit after 2 chapters. Author starts a strand of the story and then wanders off an tangents that bore you beyond belief. This maybe could have been a very short story. Read like a college assignment where the writer was told to write a paper with a certain amount of words and she somehow managed to make it to the end. Avoid at all cost!
