Historia
In this "unauthorized autobiography" - now a film starring Drew Barrymore, George Clooney and Sam Rockwell - Gong Show host Chuck Barris claims he spent two decades as a covert CIA assassin. "Though Barris' reputation as a wacky TV show host doomed this literary venture when it was originally published, it is in fact a remarkably well-crafted and entertaining book, both unflinchingly personal and at times laugh-out-loud funny," says Publishers Weekly.

It's a decent pallet cleanser.
Revisado: 01-27-25
the overall story is a bit meh. I was expecting there to be more on the CIA parts but they're covered really quickly. if you just got done binging 3 books of a 5 book series this is a decent listen to cleanse the pallet before you dive back in.

Cadia licks its wounds in the wake of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The heretic forces retreat on all fronts. The day is won. But Lord Castellan Creed cannot rest easy. Something tells him the assault was a mere prelude to something greater, something more final. He is right. Out of the Eye of Terror comes Abaddon the Despoiler, at the head of a warhost unmatched in scale since the dread days of the Horus Heresy.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Good listen. VA work was a bit confusing at times but good.
Revisado: 02-10-24
I've only ever known Dune from the movies. After watching the most recent one I figured I'd give the first book a go. Really enjoyed the whole book and could tell a lot of effort was put in the movie to keep it in line with this book. enjoyed seeing more subtle story lines fleshed out and followed to a complete end. The VA work was confusing in the beginning. Couldn't figure out why some characters had 2 different voices untill I Googled that question and found the reason. over all I really enjoyed it and plan to finish the series out.

Historia
Born of the fiery world of Nocturne, the Salamanders believe in self-sacrifice and the sanctity of human life. Their father, Vulkan, was raised on this world, a blacksmith's son from humble origins who became a primarch of the Emperor of Mankind and forged his sons into a Legion. Their saga is one of heroism, betrayal, tragedy and rebirth. They have returned from the edge of extinction more than once, forever embattled, never bowed, the Legion and their primarch the epitome of defiance in the face of adversity. Unto the anvil, born of flame.

Historia
Today, your favorite products are missing from store shelves, caught in supply chain limbo somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. But what does this supply chain disruption look like six months, or even three years, from now? While we hope that post-pandemic recovery will absolve these issues, the reality is that digital currency, meme stonks, and social media can’t solve the age-old problem of producing and moving physical goods across oceans and continents. Jim Rickards argues that consumer frustration is only the tip of a large, menacing iceberg that threatens global economic collapse.

Overall, story is good. Nice to have Loken back.
Revisado: 11-29-22
I like the story. it doesn't push the overall heresy story forward much but it's a fun listen. I enjoyed having Loken back in the picture and see the struggles he was going through.
My biggest grip with this was the VA. Gareth Armstrong has a great voice for narrating and stories where there's a handful of characters but this book had me confused in the beginning. the first hour I had to listen to twice to figure out who was who. Horus and everyone on the mournival sounded exactly the same. also, it was a bit jarring to hear everyone from the SoH be so chipper and up beat. Books leading up to this one showcased them with slowly darkening demeanors and voices that matched that.

Now, as the planet is scoured by solar flares from the wounded Veridian star, the survivors must take the fight to the remaining Word Bearers and their foul allies, or face damnation in the gloomy arcology shelters beneath the planet's surface.

Created in the Emperor's own image, the primarchs had long thought themselves to be princes of the universe and masters of their own destiny - they led the Space Marine Legions in glorious conquest of the galaxy, and no enemy of the Imperium could stand against them. However, even amongst this legendary brotherhood, the seeds of dissent had been sown long before the treacherous Warmaster Horus declared his grand heresy.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.
